Hi All,
Just wanted to run a poll to gauge whether or not moving the website to newer hardware recently has had the desired effect. I know there were some problems early on, particularly with file uploads, but those are hopefully resolved now. And I am still working on a few problems that crop up whenever I reboot the machine.
This thread is also where you can alert me to any lingering problems or issues you might encounter.
Thanks,
Scott

re: New webserver machine
Big speed improvement at my end Scott. Wiki loads in about 5 seconds as opposed to about 30 seconds before the upgrade. If that's all down to hardware upgrades, then well done.
re: New webserver machine
Response time is very good. I went to the forum index page (about 15 seconds), then this thread (about 10 seconds), then the Memberlist (about 33 seconds), then the back button to this page (about 5 seconds). Each line on the graph is six seconds. The BesslerWiki took about six seconds (not on graph).
Hopefully if things work out I'll have high speed internet in a couple weeks!!!

I chose 'don't know' Scott cause I upgraded to XP & IE7, broadband & new hardware with a gazillion MB ram last month, so everything appears at light speed to me right now.

I voted No, it's the same.
There seem to be a period during which the board doesn't respond well . .
I can't tell the time exactly however . .
And, I still have problem with my password reseting forever .. ??

Thanks for the feedback everyone, it is helpful to know.
LIB, I'm really sorry about your password problem. But unfortunately you are the only one who has it and I can't reproduce it. I will try resetting the database tables again.
Very interesting also LIB that you experience periodic slowdowns on the site. I heard something similar from mickegg. Unfortunately I think problems like those are probably with the Internet at large and beyond my control.
One limitation is that I use a DSL connection, which places an upper limit on my upload throughput at 512Kbps. But it is piggybacked on my personal Internet connection, so it is "technically" free. That is, the only way I could increase the bandwidth is by charging a subscription fee for the website. And I would much rather not have to do that.

re: New webserver machine
Scott,
One thing I thought about, maybe when I first reseted my password, a date in a field in the database was inserted badly or something of that kind ..
Maybe if you look into my record you'll see something unusual in there !? ..
Anyways, the slowdowns appeared in switzerland and here in canada too .
THe password problem is remote, in that, it's not my computer, because it produces the same problem in switzerland ..
So it's probably the database that is corrupted somewhere .. !?

re: New webserver machine
Well, I havent really noticed anything out of the originary in speed improvement. Did you upgrade the connection speed at your end Scott or just the server itself?
LIB, If your password is resetting, I guess you may have cookies disabled, it just happened to be the same setup on the other computer you used in switzerland.
Other things you could try is register with another forum and then see if the same problem occurs there. If it does, then you know its to do with the webbrowser settings.

No no, it's not my computer or the computer in Switzerland ..
It's not a cookie story either ..
The prob is server side and has been fixed..
