Hello,

Just a question as to why their is perfect balance when one weight is obviously further from the center.

The pic is easy to understand. Two wheel conveour belt holding 2 arms with weights at different distances from the vertical axis. Seems that one side would be heavier but, thats not what wm2d shows. Any idea as to why?

JJH

Sorry for the silence I have been working on a wheel.

Yes, because that is how things work.

Think of it this way. All of the weight force of each weight (no more and no less) is pulling straight down on the belt which then pulls on the pulleys.

For ANY 'Farther out, farther in' overbalance scenario to work, it MUST work on an ARC, that way the leverage is changed. See 'Roberval Balance' shows it perfectly. As shown, considering belt twist and sag, thing could get interesting...
I hope to see something work soon-by someone!!

All hail Mighty Mouse! (Just don't get me angry!)
