Ooh... I like the new discussion board

Oh, it's funny at my expense. I too do not know the origin of the ivory tower.

Jonathan,
Have you heard of Google? It's an internet search engine designed to meet your every need (well almost) for answers to questions.
The very first reference offered by www.google.com with the search phrase - "ivory tower" origin - was:
http://www.quinion.com/words/qa/qa-ivo1.htm
To quote Michael Quinion,
"... Charles-Augustin Saint-Beuve ... was a French literary critic and poet of the early part of the nineteenth century. He wrote a poem in October 1837 called Pensés d’Août (Thoughts of August) in which he refers to two fellow poets, Victor Hugo and Alfred de Vigny. I’ll spare you the whole thing, but in English the third stanza goes roughly like this:
Hugo, strong partisan ... fought in armour,
And held high his banner in the middle of the tumult;
He still holds it; and Vigny, more discreet,
As if in his ivory tower, retired before noon.
He was suggesting that Alfred de Vigny was aloof from the cares and practicalities of daily life. That’s how we use the idiom today: someone living in an ivory tower is—by accident or design—sheltered from the realities of existence, out of touch with the real world..."
We live in a truely astounding World of information and communication, don't we? If only it were so simple to discern fact from fiction or reality from fantasy or honour from fraud.

Yes, but...er...why so much interest in the linguistics you guys? The joke wasn't funny since it was at my expence and I really don't care about the origin of 'ivory tower', though it is nice to know these things.

Jonathan,
You don't care about the origin of your ivory tower! - tsk, tsk.
What change is coming... will it effect me?
Professor Frink: ...and these (handing books to Homer) should give you the grounding you'll need in thermodynamics, hypermathematics and of course microcalifragalistics.

Welcome! I'm glad you solved your problems. But I think you might be confusing 'bugs' with what we call 'user error...' ;-)

How was my thread combined with this one?
Yes, the Change will effect everyone. I don't have a particular change in mind, so I can't really elaborate on that.
I just love Professor John Frink! And did he not say: "...with the pain and the hurting; Mmmglavin!"?
LOL, I crack myself up.

Hi Jonathan,Jonathan wrote:How was my thread combined with this one?
Sorry, that was me. I merged all of the separate topics about the new board into this one... Just trying to stay organized!

re: Ooh... I like the new discussion board
No problem, I just wanted to know if it was on purpose or if the creation of a new thread by me only imagined, and I had in fact only replied to an existing one.

re: Ooh... I like the new discussion board
....."recalling" this time ,a very old and plain topic, with the help of :
http://www.zoology.ubc.ca/courses/bio33 ... motion.htm
Flagellar movement (locomotion) ,occurs as an oarlike beating.
There is a gradual increase in amplitude (peak of the wave),as the wave passes to the tip of flagellum.
It makes me to compare,to think again about the counterweight trebuchet...as a mechanical "flagellator",that can be used to resolve that apparent impossible "self" : :short arm into a long arm...
All the best ! / Alex

re: Ooh... I like the new discussion board
And if I am successful I will have to sue Scott Ellis for slander. I'm a fraud according to him. That is between Scott Ellis and John Collins what Bessler's wheel comes down to. They better hope they are right.
While they "claim" that Bessler built a working wheel, they "claim" I am a fraud for building. They have not proven their claims. Until they prove I am a fraud and other forum members are not, they are merely slandering me.
The people who accuse me of fraud have offered no proof other than perpetual motion is impossible. In a perpetual motion forum that is not a valid argument.
If Scott loses, this forum will cease to exist. He will need to prove that perpetual motion is possible. If not then he ha cannot claim that I am a fraud.
It's a simple argument. He will need to prove that he does not support Bessler's work along with John Collins and other senior forum members. The law requires proof.
@Scott, I was trying to be nice but now it is up to what the facts and the law allows for. If I successful, I have suffered mental cruelty because of you. Bessler like me is a fraud. No other way to say it. :)
Scott, if you can't prove that Bessler was a fraud then you are slandering me. You have accused me of fraud. If you can't prove it, I can sue you.
This is funny because I was going to quit posting in here. But you had to defame me for supporting Bessler's work.
It is sad that when I bring calculus into the discussion that you claim I am a fraud. Why calculus?
Like I said, am tired of the B.S. You have to prove that I am wrong. This means that you have to prove that Bessler was a fraud. Enjoy ❤️
