We need to think about the possible meanings of warped: why not say CURVED boards, or CORRUGATED boards, what the @#$% does WARPED mean?: to me warped means the impacts left a mark such as a round heavy iron ball would, or the boards were splitting due to moisture (unlikely).

Is this the best translation of the word?

Gravity, pure and simple.

remember Karl said it was simple

I dont think he could have made that statement without much deliberation
if it was something other than gravity.

I dont think enviromental or CF mechanics would have been so apparent.

I think that the comment about it always being summer in his wheel was a reference to the fact that his machine could operate in winter and summer with equal ease, because water wheels were frozen during the winter and therefore inoperable.

For further information about the 'holes' in the wheels, refer to Wagner's criticism when I have managed to post it on my web site, hopefully later today. I would post it here but it's 20 pages long.
certain disposed weights once in rotation, gain force from their own swinging, and must continue their movement as long as their structure does not lose its position and arrangement
I think Bessler is just describing an obvious reaction to the wheel turning. The weights would begin swing to as the wheel began to turn and they would gain force from the increasing speed.

I think everyone knows my opinion - gravity alone.

On an earlier note, Doc wrote...
Boiler Bill ; in all your investigation of thermal stuff did you ever do an in depth study of those "perpetual lamps" supposedly found in some ancient tombs still burning after 1000 years or more without being replenished ??? that yarn was told me when i was a little kid by a very old timer . i was always curious about it . Doc.
I seen a close example of this in "Around the World in 80 Treasures", I would therefore assume that such lamps are fueled by natural gas seeping from vents in the earth.

I went with my gut and not my head... and chose - gravity powered.

Maybe I'm digging a little too deep here, but, perhaps the "always summer" quote is in reference to the four quadrants of a circle.

If you start with spring in quadrant 1, summer in 2, fall in 3 and winter in 4, wouldn't it make sense that the wheel was overbalanced in the summer quadrant?

Call me crazy...

Ovvyus...

All I can really say is that I have to take Bessler for what he said. Perhaps you're right and he really had an environmental way of causing the wheel to go around. It just seems very unlikely, not because its not plausible, but because mainstream science has been looking for this for quite some time, and I find them to have a greater technological knowledge than Bessler could have ever dreamed.

No, I have to believe that Bessler found something where mainstream science has not dared to look in centuries, and that is in a "true" PMM, where the only source of possible energy would be gravity or dark matter.

The Bessler Wheel was only driven by gravity, only weights, no springs are necessary. Their are other (P)ermanent (M)ovments possible which are using CF, but that wasn't Bessler's way. His wheel was definitely driven by gravity.

And be sure, once you see it, you will ignore it, because it is too simple.

Like most of the others here, I have voted for gravity only. I still believe it's a very simple arrangement of weights and levers, nothing more. One of these days I plan to make new drawings of an old design which I still think it must be the solution. Then I will try to give better explanations about the operation so this time everybody will understand it (hopefully).
By the way: this is a great thread.

I went with gravity.

Close description to my design...
The weights may have replaced the last few squares, giving it just enough proportional weight/length movement to over balance the wheel. Until the minimum length is achieved it acts like a dampened pendulum.

Always summer could mean inside the wheel is shaped like the sun! I.e. a circle with beams sticking out.

Oh...
The sides may have been warped because of the mechanism that I believe that was installed. It has a tendency to slap/scrape the sides. The mechanism is a little snake like when handled, enclosed inside a wheel, MDF in my prototype, there was visible inner side damage.

How's this as a representation in 2D of a 3 cube.

A 3 cube is 27.

27 = 3x9

3x9 looks like...
