re: Are you optmistic ?
Math is kind of boring for some but it has always fascinated me.
The probability of Mr. Tim being randomly assigned a unique ip in 434 posts 15 times out of a net block of 65,836 is 1.52^-71. Very small odds. Blues odds out of 1122 tries hitting 55 times falls way beyond the realm of possibility at 1.94^-264. Winkle out of 901 tries or posts with 5 successes is 1.44^-22.
aol's assignment of ip addresses isn't random. It can't be entirely up to chance to beat the odds of 1.94 ^-264. It is statistically significant three members would coincidently post at the frequency you 3 have from those very rare occurences. :)
whatever, whatever.

That would be assuming that it all came from the same computer and location...correct? So, Freescale? The probability of Mr. Tim being randomly assigned a unique ip in 434 posts 15 times out of a net block of 65,836 is 1.52^-71. Very small odds. Not very impressive, but you could have completed it correctly. its not dun its Dunne. Look for the beware of wife sign.
I also have imported a new hybrid type watch dog from a member down under.
I am amazed you still have one green dot!

If I had spelt dun correctly then what would you have to do? Recently you changed the subject for Jim to spelling rather than address his point. You often change the subject. The theme of this thread was ‘optimistic or not’ yet you would rather change the subject to a person. Do you have ADD?
Anyone that has read you for just a little while knows the importance you place on reputation. By my way of thinking I’d rather have concrete ideas. I see you as someone running around trying to get a few more cards so you can have a full deck and you have no problem dealing from the bottom.
With you at the helm I’m very optimistic we’ll run aground.

Hope you had fun doing your math, but a simple google search would have been more productive.Bessler007 wrote:Math is kind of boring for some but it has always fascinated me.

As you can see, AOL's pool of IPs is rather small.
The real question is this. What is your agenda here?

I am optimistic that I have never seen a post considered a concrete idea regarding a gravity motivated machine with your alias on it.By my way of thinking I’d rather have concrete ideas. I see you as someone running around trying to get a few more cards so you can have a full deck and you have no problem dealing from the bottom.
True! I have no problem with dealing from the bottom of the deck, as I deal face up, can you say the same?
As for attempting to be impressive posting my street address readily available in the white pages, I am optimistic that more than the number of four members who have found my front door will increase!
I have nothing to hide, and its not based on reputation but integrity which is optimistic. By the way my birth date is 3/21/40 Location: Myrtle Point Oregon. Note that the date is the first day of spring. I therefore refer to myself as an optimistic bloomer. Is there anything else personal you wish to know?
My IPS address is Quest/MSN and although it sites Portland Ore. I am 192 miles from there. I have also noticed that my posts are sometimes routed through local IP servers such as Oregon trail and One Eighty which are both local service company's using Quest supplied modems and connections.
A more in depth track of your past addresses range from Seattle Washington to Austin Texas?????

re: Are you optmistic ?
Hello Scott,
I did look on line. There are 2 different published cidr’s for that ip. One of them agrees with aol’s. That’s likely the most accurate. I try to get what I can out of a discussion. As this one has tended to move away from ‘optimistic: yes or no’ to the red herring of people and where they are I thought I’d do some math. I haven’t looked at statistics in quite a while and enjoyed the review.
That’s the most useful thing I can come away from this discussion with. It is irrelevant where people are.
Agendas are what politicians have in their constant attempt to focus power into their hands. Understandings can be powerful if based on reality. The open discussion of ideas as they’re attacked and defended puts that power on the table for anyone to have. It isn’t tightly held in the hands of a few grand whizzers doled out to their trusted left tenants in the form of a green dot. A green dot or consensus is not going to cause an idea to have any basis in reality.
When Graham started this topic he asked about the progress of the group. Political wrangling seldom arrive at any meaningful discussion. I’ve pointed out the significance of the discovery of a gravity wheel in the face of Mr. Collins thread a wheel wouldn’t violate the laws of physics. That misconception on Mr. Collins’ part is readily addressed in the terms of a physicist’s answer to a wheel. The answer is in terms of which law of thermodynamics it violates.
It is useful for the investigation to examine a matter to the finest detail possible. Physicists do that with the language of mathematics. It is more useful to the politician to take ideas off the table by including those presenting them in their clique or creating confusion by making points of misspelling or dragging red herrings on to the table or mixing terms and meaning.
I never made the point the trio are one in the same person. I might adjust the variables to see what the odds are. I did notice Steve looked at two eccentric circles recently and in a winkle manner called them concentric. Even if they are different people they have similar powers of observation. Are they brothers of different mothers? Who cares.
You can smell a politician. Their pockets are full of red herrings.

Good work 007.
Scott probably knows all that anyway, or am I giving too much credit?

Well, at least it's an answer. It is, however, as intellectually unsatisfying as your contention the meaning of perpetual motion has evolved since Bessler's day. Thanks for the geography lesson. You might know 'mericans aren't too good when it comes to George Eston's old granny.
On a believability scale of one to ten it does rank above the statistical probability an isp would assign the same address to different users at such a high frequency as I cited. I've been told people have been banned for breaching a much lower threshold. I'd run the numbers but I do have some wheel ideas to work on.
Re: re: Are you optmistic ?
Outstanding 007. I couldn't have said it better.
Ralph is the "go to" guy for all things wheel.
He deserves a high dot rating.
Be nice.

re: Are you optmistic ?
I'm sure I'm going to regret this, but what, Bessler007, is your explanation for the success of Bessler's wheel? You seem to be saying that the laws of thermodynamics have been broken.I’ve pointed out the significance of the discovery of a gravity wheel in the face of Mr. Collins thread a wheel wouldn’t violate the laws of physics. That misconception on Mr. Collins’ part is readily addressed in the terms of a physicist’s answer to a wheel. The answer is in terms of which law of thermodynamics it violates.
As I recall the first law states that energy cannot be created or destroyed.
The second law states that entropy increases in all energy systems .
And the third laws states that as the temperature approaches absolute zero, the entropy of a system approaches a constant.
What has this to do with Bessler's wheel?

I'm relieved Scott, thanks! I was beginning to think it was me being paranoid. I confess I had to edit my post to remove the words which were too close to a personal attack.
