Hi Arthur; Can you explain how your pendulum is supposed to work? Is it self starting, or need a push?

the idea is:

mechanism is started by:
.. lifting pendulum to 12:00 and giving it a good push ccw

the spring accelerates the pendulum downwards.. starting at 10:30.

KEY:
*****outer circle simply represents the path of outer weight.

******the inside circle represents a track that the inner weight follows.
**the inside weight can slide back & forth along radius/pendulum to follow the track.

**outside weight is fixed to radius/pendulum.

**spring pulls inner weight towards the outside.

I have been playing with weight test for a while and I also tried the spring ideas.
In that form that you have the spring will take a lot of your movement down and then deaden back to the axle, if! you can get it to do the work from just a drop speed. If your spring is to week it will spring down and stay slowing your lift and if to strong it will barely compress the spring, adding no value.

I hope my knowledge of testing will help you to your next possible steps.

as the "pendulum" drops
from 10:30 to 4:30 ---> the spring closes: adding force to the swing.

when the pendulum rises
from 4:30 to 10:30----> the spring opens, with little influence on rotation because gravity opens the spring.

understand my logic?

The drawing is OK, I see where you are going...

I like it, needs real world testing.

The momentum gained will be good. I just hope the spring mech. doesn't suck the energy back out on the way back up

thanks oxygon,

I am thinking the momentum gained from the spring will be (more than) enough to carry pendulum back to the top.

pendulum falls & the closing spring adds velocity......

....pendulum rises & the inside weight opens the spring.

I just hope the spring mech. doesn't suck the energy back out on the way back up
let's hope.

@arthur

I can easily do this test, since I already have been doing these type test, and set ups. So I will do this test and make an avi video of it.
