This wonderful book features more than 200 engravings that encompass a wide range of engineering projects. It is an unabridged reproduction of a book originally published in 1969 which had the title "Civil Engineering Around 1700". This two hundred and seven page book has fourteen chapters.

  2. Surveying.
  3. Levelling.
  4. Materials.
  5. Hand tools.
  6. Lifting equipment.
  7. Transport and erection.
  8. Piling.
  9. Bailing.
  10. Machines.
  11. Water supply.
  12. Work in earth and rock.
  13. Marine works and hydraulic engineering.
  14. Roads and streets.
In Chapter two on "Surveying", page 28 there is the following table giving details of the different ells used in various locations. An ell is the distance measurement from the elbow to the tip of the forefinger. If a Rhineland foot is divided into 1000 parts, then the following places will have the following number of such parts in one ell. One Rhineland foot equals 12.357 inches.

I really don't know. At least the images are accessible and can be interpreted somewhat. There may not be an english version.
