Derivated trafic?

Post by path_finder »

Scott,
When entering the URL 'http://www.besslerwheel.com'
depending of the connexion session I will be connected
- either with www.besslerwheel.com (original web site)[208.67.222.222]
- either with gator632.hostgator.com [74.53.235.2]
(info given by the wireshark trafic analyser software)
Do you have any link with this web site ?
Is it a remote spy redirection? an identity substitution (I can observ a parallel trafic even if I ask nothing).
The global rate is also lower in that situation, and some part of the web pages are missing.

According with the www.internic.net information site:
whois 74.53.235.2
[Requête en cours whois.arin.net]
[Redirigé vers rwhois.theplanet.com:4321]
[Requête en cours rwhois.theplanet.com]
[rwhois.theplanet.com]

Pathfinder,

This website is hosted by the provider named hostgator.com. I'm not sure how they implement everything but it looks like maybe they have service agreements with theplanet.com and opendns.com. Seems perfectly innocuous to me.

When I do an nslookup on besslerwheel.com I get:

c:\>nslookup besslerwheel.com

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: besslerwheel.com
Address: 74.53.235.2

When I do an nslookup on 208.67.222.222 I get:

c:\>nslookup 208.67.222.222

Name: resolver1.opendns.com
Address: 208.67.222.222

Scott,
Many thanks for the answer.
Are you confident in their filtering and rerouting procedures? No one interfering?
I confirm a parallel trafic sometime, as mentioned above.

I have been very happy with the service for almost a year now. No reason to suspect any malfeasance. Perhaps they use a round robin scheme for load balancing.

It's a lot better than my poor old dsl connection, that's for sure :-)
