I assume you're referring to illicit drugs with this topic. If that's the case then neither Democrats or Republicans are correct in their presentation of the two choices you outline. According to the Constitution, so long as the distribution/sale of products of any kind (drugs included) take place on an entirely intrastate basis the federal government has no authority to regulate. It is however entirely within the rights of state governments to regulate all intrastate commerce.

So then the national debate over drug policy is null and void from the get go. It shouldn't even be a national issue...

No I'm referring to everything. If you survey a representative sample of dems and repubs together, there is no aspect of human activity which will not be controlled and/or banned by the majority of that group.

I don't know the last time they were invoked . but the fact remains the laws are on the books and CAN be invoked at any time they so desire !!! there is no aspect of human life that is not controlled by some rule of law . be carefull they got laws agin eatin pussy too .

No, not really. Were these laws wrongfully thought up? Yes, long ago. And were they ever invoked they'd be immediately struck down by Federal courts on the grounds of being unconstitutional. It happens all of the time. People might try to "regulate ever aspect of human life" and they might even pass a law to try to but those laws will never stand in a court of law.

To claim that the government seeks to regulate every aspect of human life is ridiculous and can be demonstrably shown to not be true. It sounds like the whinings of a teenager who just got done reading 1984 for the first time...
