Advice for anyone that's experienced their PC acting 'funny' the last few days.

If you're PC is behind a router, unplug just the router power supply for 30-60 seconds and plug it back in. This should clear any bugs in the firmware. Check the VPN (Virtual Private Network) setting to be sure someone hasn't set up a tunnel into your computer.

Check your PC's firewall settings, especially the exceptions.

Go here... http://www.grc.com/default.htm
Under Hot Spots (about half way down the page) find ShieldsUP! and click on it.
Click either of the Proceed buttons.
In the ShieldsUP!! Services box, click where it says All Service Ports.
Give it a minute or two. This will tell you if you have open ports.

Manually run your protection software; adware, spyware, then anti-virus (set it for all files and rootkits if you can).

Once you've done all the above, give it a day or two. If you're still having problems, there's System Restore. But if you've been hacked by a pro, the malware will probably rewrite itself into the registry. If that's the case, you may have to reload your O/S with a fresh install. I hope that's not necessary.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please post them.

Ralph

Sorry to hear about this

Your lost account may have been something to do with the "ignore list"
in the "Contact Lists" section?

I don't know if it's possible to put one's own username on that list and thereby effectively delete one's account.

...not suggesting for a moment that you did, but if possible an individual who knows about these things might wish to cause mayhem.

And NO....I'm not going to try it to see if one can <grin>

Hope Scott can restore normality

Regards

Mick

EDIT: Although that wouldn't explain why we can't see them.

Actually Mark I had to reinstall last week after a crash - first Outlook went then others - spent the last week reinstalling software [plus more protection] so heed Mark's words lest it be an expensive lesson like mine turned out to be.

I know what you mean, Fletcher, it's a pain. At least you know it's clean now. :-)
Did a fresh install on one of mine in December, but it was a busted hard drive. Not related to this nonsense.
Although, I did have to reset my router yesterday. Not dead, just slow. When I went into the menu on it, some of the interface was missing.
I wonder how many days the nit-wit's been getting his jollies.

mark, while it's possible Ralph has been hacked.. I don't think it's the problem here..

It's clearly something server side with the database, unless Ralph had the password to the web server and database of Besslerwheel.com on his computer, it sounds to me like a DoS or a simple database bug ..

no news from not_me. A coincidence?
I cannot imagine why nobody though on this before, including myself? It is so simple!...

Ralph , I'm having the same kind of problems opening certain threads. I've got 3 laptops and a desktop and they all have the same problems, but only on this site. Sunday I couldn't acccess BesslerWheel at all.
I remember Scott telling LIB that he had a back-up for this site, saying that the imformation on it was to important to ever be lost, I think he said this on docs thread about donating to the site.

Let's hope this problem gets resolved quickly.

P.S. If someone out there is hacking me, my wife and daughter transfers all my wheel pictures to a file and now they can't find it. If you come across it can you post me a link?
Beer is the cause and the solution of all my problems.

Lib I don't know about Ralph personally being hacked but wouldn't you say he's being targeted, especially since the same thing happened on another board where he has a few enemies? And folks when someone new signs on here with a name that is also Dick, who speaks like the stereotypical mad scientist ( and a few personalities that have been members here before ) and cites "Arrache" Orginization, doesn't that raise some red flags?

Thanks Mark that is a good site.

Sorry for the trouble everyone. Not sure how or why the db got so corrupted. I was able to restore some records from backup and it seems to be working now.

Ralph, I fixed your user record so your old account should work fine now. Please use it from now on.

Thanks,
Scott

LIB,

Just how much about who rlortie is are you interested in?

As for the 15 missing posts, yes it is possible they were in my private 'Gravity Solutions' group. I do find this puzzling though as I posted more than the 15 you speak of.
