Is that a Jewish star in the middle? And swastika levers protruding... You could call it the racial discrimination wheel.

I think that I was being influenced by the Dan Brown novels. That's why I never posted that one on this site. The worst part is that it's probably not my goofiest design. I have lots of fun building them.

Dear getterdone,
Your shot lets me think to the armenian gravity wheel (but less complex), shown here:

About the svastika design (indian version):

http://www.besslerwheel.com/forum/viewt ... 5935#55935
IMHO the triskelion, the ying-yang, the svastika, the david star, etc. are not only ornamental

re: A depository for failed and teaching wheel designs.
Here's a picture of the first one I built , I'd already started taking it apart when I realised I should take a picture. It's a very simple lesson learned , the weight of the hammers gets transfered to the chains causing tension. Double the weights, double the tension, and the harder it will be to turn.
P.S. I keep hearing people refering to non-runners as failed wheels, every wheel I've built has though me something and I don't regret having built anyone of them.
I wish I could go back and clean the garage before taking the picture, oh well!

Yes we who have built wheels, don't have failures, just lessons. LOL
Here is one of mine.

re: A depository for failed and teaching wheel designs.
Another unsuccessful attempt (this time of 'order three', with three weights dephased of 120 grades).
The reason why it don't work is coming from the absence of link with the external rim of the wheel (everything linked to the central axis). In addition, one single primemover will not be sufficient anyway.

Gee Alan, you didn't have to go and make all those hammers from scratch. You could've just e-mailed me and I would have loaned you some.
Path finder, I see you went through a phase of trying to figure out the mysteries of the tringle, I can't pass by a windmill without thinking or the affects of a triangle on a wheel. I'm sure I'll be drawn to those kind of builds again in the future.

I have to admire you chaps who put so much time and energy (and money) into building physical models.
I stick to theoretical models, they are easier and cheaper. I then try and work out why they won't work.
Trouble is one has to build a physical model in the end. Fortunately I have acquired a builder who is good at such things. I pay for the materials and outline the strategy. He works out the tactics and does all the hard work. Bit like the Scientific Civil Service really. ;-)

But I like making my own hammers. I am a blacksmith you know and it is cheaper than the shipping. LOL This way I build them to fit the design ;)

re: A depository for failed and teaching wheel designs.
My wife was going through one of her old memory sticks, she found a photo of a wheel I was building about 4 years ago.
This wheel was part of a series of 4 similar designs , I looking for a mechanical advantage from the'' under / over the axle'' designs in the MT's

Wow, getter!
What a huge built!
Easy to imagine the tech/emotion/time factor you expend on all this!
Made me remember a thing that has to be with we all in this crazy forum.
Yesterday I was reading about one of the causes for the excellent development of 'homo sapiens' populations over other kind of other homos and planet environments.
H.S. used to live in tribes together with some kind of weird guys with not quite mental normality, p. ex., autism and schizophrenic members.
The scientists said that HS capitalized the stubborn performance of eccentric people, able to, someway, expend hipper-focus over some themes... themes that deserved important but very hard step evolutions!

Very nice, Leo.
I really like a larger scale build. It's much easier to work with.
Did you solder the copper tube joints or temporarily stick them together with something?

With the ongoing increase in the price of copper your investment is paying off! At last check, recyclers are paying $3.65 US per pound for bare copper.
