I note that you removed the ip addresses following member's privacy concerns Scott. This was around the 27th May which was about the same time the web site no longer recognised that I had visited a thread. Could there be a connection?

Things are starting to act up for me now as well. The refresh, which acts inconsistent, and also I'm showing a count of 65535 unread private messages when I have none.

The 65535 unread messages has been on my machine for what seems like years. It has survived through three major computer crashes, so I know it is not a glitch on my end.

I have learned to ignore, it does not seem to effect performance and I do not bother with it.

I believe it is a code leading to Bessler's secret, placed there by collaboration between Bessler and God. If you have this number you are one of the chosen few! :-)

OOP's; I just clicked on the 'Submit' button and received this:

phpBB : Critical Error

Error updating sessions table

DEBUG MODE

SQL Error : 1053 Server shutdown in progress

UPDATE phpbb_sessions SET session_time = 1276367855, session_page = -9 WHERE session_id = '1c5f79659ac5648c88e02aa70c058130'

Dear Ralph,
Don't worry. 65535 is the decimal value of 'all ones' (FFFF in hexadecimal) used by the programmers for the 'minus one' value.
Usually it is used as a flag for a specific status. In the present case I suspect a bug in the downcounting of the reading process.
I do have also this value sometime.
I cannot imagine why nobody though on this before, including myself? It is so simple!...

You're exactly right path_finder. That bug has existed for years and has nothing to do with the other recent complaints folks have been having. I found some arcane errors in the php logs that I have forwarded to my ISP.
Thanks,
Scott

EDIT: Hopefully the change they just made will help:
From time to time we make changes to php to add or remove options. When we do this users who have a local copy of php.ini in their home directories need a new one or the appropriate paths changed.

I made another backup of the php.ini file in your home directory and copied in an entirely new one. The errors are not accumulating when I visit your site at this time.

Sincerely,
Linux Systems Administrator

I was just about to say that................... .....Not. LOL

Dear Scott,
Many thanks for your excellent work in this forum and for putting at our disposal an efficient tool for sharing and storing the maximum of data.
May I make just three remarks:

1. The restoring process (after some recent troubles) seems to be not fully completed:
per example Vina1 is in the list of the connected members today. When clicking on this name and entering in the profile screen, 94 posts are announced.
When clicking on 'Find all posts by Vina1', we got this message
No topics or posts met your search criteria
Not very urgent, but when the administrator has the time again.

2. In the 'index' page the selection of the 'albums' link opens the album selection page.
Unfortunately the fault value is 2002.
It would be much more convenient to display by default the current month's list.
The same for the combo-list if possible.

3. The IP address icon can be useful for some interesting investigations when a troll enters in the forum, and for the identification of the hackers in case of attack attempt.
Please note that 'notme' seems to be disappeared...

Many thanks in advance.

I think the larger problems are fixed, no?

Path_finder I appreciate your feedback but your issues are a lower priority to the core usability issues mentioned in this thread.

Everyone who complained in this thread, can you please tell me if things are better now or not? Since I never saw the problems myself, it is hard to know if they are fixed without any feedback.

Thanks,
Scott

I experienced a few minutes of down time last night, that I am sure you are aware of as your were online just seconds before it went down,

I have no input other than thanks, everything seems to be working normal.

If you're using Internet Explorer, the following may cure this minor annoyance.

Click the Tools button on your browser.
At the bottom of the drop-down menu, click Internet Options.
On the General tab, under Browsing History (IE8) or Temporary Internet Files (IE6), click the Settings button.
Under "Check for newer versions of stored pages", see if "Every time I visit the webpage" (IE8) or "Every visit to the page" (IE6) is selected.
If not, select it.
Click "OK" and "OK".

And Scott, since you fixed the unread Private Messages glich, the 'new posts' count on the Index page is indicating many more than what I see in going through the 'newposts' list. I'm referring to when I log back in, having logged out the previous day (and cleared cookies).
IMO, also a minor thing. I just read 'em all, no matter how many there really are.

Mark, selecting the "Every time I visit the webpage" setting might not be best for every webpage visited (increase browsing download). Mine is set to "Automatic", which suggests that visited webpages have the ability to tell IE to either refresh the page or display the page from memory.
