MT 10: Does it keel?

Post by ruggerodk »

Bessler said that:
No. 10. This is just the same as the previous model, except that the
weighted rods are more curved and longer. The principle is good, but
the figure is not yet complete until I illustrate it very differently at the
appropriate place and grasp the correct construction.
But why would it stop?
And when it stop, in what position are the weight 'hanging'?

Something is missing: What would complete the figure?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Just a small improvement. Then, doubled and linked?

I cannot imagine why nobody though on this before, including myself? It is so simple!...

Pathfinders second picture is good, providing the straight levers are not connected to an axle, which will halt any movement.

Now turn your head 45% anticlockwise and look again, this is going to be its resting position.

The principle of using SPRINGS may be all he is hinting at.

Hi, when I read Bessler's quote it seem it is on his to build list, which would suggest that he could see something in this design.

Hi,

Add a paddle wheel or simular to the top left of MT 10, to take off weight on the ascending and advance it to the descending side.

See my post, Post subject: Inside Bessler’s Wheel by Trevor Lyn Whatford

Regards Trevor

Edit, I did not realise MT 10 was chain linked, the chains have to be removed as they make the weights act like one mass, I have built falling levers that are chain linked and they act more like a damper. edit again, the chains seem to pull more weight back than they do forward. (remove gap)

Hi,
ruggerodk: the wheel stops because there are more weights on the left side and then it balance.
DrWhat: I have the same feeling. Maybe adding springs we can keep more weights on the right side or at least the same number of weights on both side.... but it adds the problem of how to bring the weights of the left side toward the center :-)
I am more convinced than ever that the preloaded springs are fundamental.

Claudio

Edit: No, it is not so simple... MT9/10 do not work never with springs.

Thanks everyone - I'm overwelmed by the interest of MT10.

Path_finder: I'm not sure I grasp your intension of your drawing. Though it seems to be a somewhat offset axle with moveable 'legs', kindda hanging on the original round balls.

Tarsier: Are you talking about mine or path_finders drawing, when you suggest looking at it 45° CCW?
I believe Besslers original MT10 had flexible arms which are then curved by thw weights. Connecting the weights by a chain will possibly make the weights allways stay fixed in this position (rest)...maybe even without a chain they will rest like that.
But again: If that's the case, what purpose would these - allways resting - curved arms with weights serve? They would just rest!...hey, they're might even supposed to rest? Is that the "good principle"?

Ealadha: You suggest that it is connected to 140, the ladder (at right on the 'toy page')?

Unstable and DrWhat: The flexible arms could be seen as leafsprings or a bow - at some point it will flip.
From another angle the whole system of flexible hanging arms function as one big connected spring (think of a balloon).

hi ruggero
1-MT10 is the same of the actual bessler model, but the weighted rods should be straight & shorter than in the picture.
2-(the principle is good),that mean is the same of bessler wheel principle.
3-(but the figure is not yet complete until i illustrate it very differently at the appropriate place),so bessler mean that only the orientation of whole wheel is different.
4-if you turn the whole picture of the wheel you can see the helical path & also where the the position of the weights are hanging?.
5-(something is missing):i say yes, without this the wheel would it stop.
6-one of our members look like very clever, when he suggested to connected to MT140.if you take his advice, you can do something (this is true).

Ealadha,
Click 'post reply'
Describe the attachment in your post.
Click 'Click to Add an Attachment' in middle of page.
Optionally click 'Allowed Extensions and Sizes'
Click 'Browse' button or enter the file location and name manually.
Add a file comment if desired.
Optionally Click 'Preview' button
Click 'Submit Button'.

It's not hard once you get the hang of it.

PS: You can also link to other people's internet images by clicking the 'Img' button then enter the http address and then click the 'Img*' button again. This will link the image from an external source and put it in your post instead of in your album.

If it is your image then it should be placed into your album rather than linking to some external location that might vanish sometime in the future.

hi
by using this type of connect you are making alot of friction for each pin point,we have to fight against friction to wine free running wheel.thanks

sadiq

Use a sump and fill it with oil and it won,t wear away , just change the oil every few months like in a car .
