Perpetual Motion Video
When looking up images of the Costa wheel I came across this YouTube video in six parts on perpetual motion machines. The series are probably quite familiar to forum old stagers but I thought newcomers might like to see them.
I was interested to see Dr Aspden in one of them. He looks a lot older than when I met him some eons ago.
The thing I remember most about him was that he had the tidiest desk I'd ever seen.
Maybe that was de rigueur for people working for IBM patents department.

re: Perpetual Motion Video
The name of this movie is called "A Machine To Die For". The ending shows the skeptic Eric Krieg denouncing the validity of Aldo Costa's wheel(the wheel is shown moving in the background). The narrator then closes with the statement "And the wheel keeps on turning". That statement is an outright lie and has misled many people(specifically/especially on YouTube).
Here's the peswiki on it: http://peswiki.com/index.php/Directory: ... vity_Motor
If you scroll to the bottom there are notes from Eric Krieg about what really happened. I'll just post them here in plain sight. .....
Skeptic, Eric Krieg's Observations

It is a pathetic failure. I only spectulated that it may run if enough wind goes in the exact direction the wheel goes. People there said that Costo had been saying for decades, "my next set of changes on this will work". I saw evidence in his shop of what was obviously many totaly different attempts. He has a large following of people who believe that he can someday get it to work but no one who says it works now.
The thousand year history of perpetual motion machines and over balanced wheels is pathetic and punctuated only by the standard free energy frauds involved unsubstantiated claims, followers in denial and claims of forgotten technology. I'm sure in 100 years from now, there will still be losers wasting their lives on overbalanced wheels.
I'd be happy to be convinced by real proof of free energy - and my $10,000 prize is still good.

For it to be shown, he had to act as if there was some kind of mystery even though he knows full well there is not. It was unethical for him to edit it to imply the wheel kept spinning when they had to film quick before the thing stopped on it's own. I had to make a dangerous climb to the top (while the inventor was sick) to make mechanical adjustments so it could spin at all with the camera guy straining to turn it. No one ever said the thing works - but the inventor still had this cult like following that shows up all the time there.

Ironically, I was in denial - when I saw the video the first time, I was bummed that they cut out the greatest scene where I with the wheel slowly turning behind me explained why you can't get ahead with gravity, how it as an approach has failed solid for 1000 years and hundreds of would be inventors - then I listed off all the friction kinds of things that would sap energy and right as I said "and that is why these things will never work" - the wheel squeaked to a stop.
I thought for sure they would use that as a powerful closing scene. I had a feeling they failed to get it to sell and reedited it to imply there is an ongoing mystery. It was funny talking to the guys who were on sound and camera. They thought the whole film was just following a bunch of lunatics around. They did impressions of how nuts people like Newman, Carey and Hutchinson were. They described to me what they called "the 15 second lunatic test" where you can tell in 15 seconds of talking that someone is nuts. They were not trained in science and were unimpressed by the junk shown.
But getting back to my own delusion. It was probably wishful thinking on my part which made me not fully "get" that many people watching the whole film would conclude it says there is something there. Yup, I was probably just happy to hear a few of my own skeptic quotes and missed that many people would see the film as proof I saw something working.
I have recommended to Sterling that it is long since time to bury all hope in over balanced wheels - even OU, we should expect to see here and now proof before giving any credence to them.
I give some hope to BLP which is near me - I sent them my yearly letter to the effect, "if you ever have a really good undeniable experiment, please allow me to come by and witness it".
If any of this stuff really would turn out to work, I would gladly turn from leading skeptic to supporter - I would much rather be for something than against something. for now, I am for real science, real engineering, real tests and critical thinking.

re: Perpetual Motion Video
If anyone is curious to look at Eric the Skeptic's "History of Perpetual Motion and Free Energy Machines" which was mentioned in the movie, here it is:
http://u2.lege.net/newebmasters.com__fr ... nnis4.html
Johann Bessler is 13th on the list, without much additional info.
There are some other good links at the bottom of the page.

Grimer,
thanks for sharing!
Since ever, Erick plays as a passive skeptical. He already had a lot of opportunities to give a help to some builders.
Possibly that as skeptical and criticizer he'll think he's a winner, because his forum is now down and down!
No weird people write anymore there - I'm member/reader since 2002.
I saw up to 3rd link and I think that maybe Aldo Costa forgot something.
Maybe he forgot the 4th dimension, which is 'quality', or attention to nature of solids and masses.
If I reached him well, his idea of reducing radius in 180º is great.
For that so large wheel I would use much bigger unbalance and weight, since the inert body is too great.
Best.
M.

Alan,
if you have a runner you'll never need any skeptical witness!
Never!

Hi Grimer
The documentry, ''a machine to die for'', aired on Canadian television a few years ago. When I saw Aldo Costa's wheel , I was realy impressed, what a build. At the time I was looking for a hobby, something to build in my garage. The first thing I noticed when I saw him put his wheel in motion was him thightening some nuts on the perimiter. I knew that he must be doing this to increase the rotation of the wheel, but regardless of that it got me thinking about PM and I've been hooked ever since.
As far as Erik the skeptic goes, I'm eager to prove him wrong and collect that 10,000.00.
Maybe the next build will be the one , who knows

getterdone,
Correct me if I am wrong but IIRC Eric's $10,000 prize requires a machine that will light and sustain 15 100 watt light bulbs (1500 watts).
This has been compared to the Wright Brothers first air flight being required to fly coast to coast.

Forget about Eric. If you build one $10,000 will be small change.getterdone wrote:Hi Grimer

Wouldn't happen to have a low friction pendulum lying around by any chance, would you?

Re: re: Perpetual Motion Video
Yep. If Eric understood anything about science he would realise that the prize should be given to the first person to show that energy, however small, can be extracted on a continuous basis from the gravitational wind.rlortie wrote:getterdone,

That is the real breakthrough.

Re: re: Perpetual Motion Video
You are right there Ralph, Eric uses this prize to add weight to his web site, knowing he will not pay it out because of his terms and condition, A skeptic scam, one of many, no! that could not happen could it, its not like he gets any revenue from adverts and stuff! A small man playing the odds trying to be a big player, he should change sides if he wants to win.rlortie wrote:getterdone,

I know little about Eric , but I think I remember reading somewhere that He use to try to discover PM ,like us, then he decided it was impossible and became a skeptic. Kinda like Wagner, If I can't figure it out(and I'm so smart) then it must be impossible.
