I'd like to know your important opinion about my wheel
Hi guys,
I worked since the end of 2009 on a rotating device driven by impacts and now I'd like to show my work and know your valuable opinion.
The design is pretty cool and really new but I do not know if my rotating system works because ideas are very different with real world.
I did not build a real prototype yet. Anyway I suppose this not the design of Bessler wheel.
This rotating system is based on three important points:
1) impacts
2) balancing
3) open system
The collisions between falling weights sliding on linear guides fixed on the rotating system with an external rigid body fixed on the earth, make this an open system because it exchanges forces with the external world (like windmill and water turbine). More arms has the system and more balanced is. You can notice that the system rotates contrary its unbalancing.
Anyway you can understand better watching the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwxejgqREE
and taking a look to the website (more videos):
www.dynerg.com (still under construction)
I apologize for the few information but my first job takes me much time.
Criticisms and help are welcome.
All the best

The impact drives the sphere down; stop wasting your time.
Build a small ‘smokin lamas’; or collect data on wheel trebuchets. Then you will be heading in the right direction.
I like our web site.

"Heading in the right direction"
Do you have a working wheel pequaide ? that you are not sharing with us , otherwise how would you know what is the right direction !

Interesting concept, and the movement is interesting.
Perhaps you are a bit presumptuous building a website about a device to "change the world" when it is still only a computer model.
When the weights are at the outer position, they have more inertia, so I doubt you will get the acceleration you show in your simulations, and without that, no reset 8(

You have it turning the wromg way. It would go CCW :)

Hi Tarsier,
There are "?" at the end of each phrase!
One day a similar device really will change the world. Probably not this, anyway the concept is new.

But no it is not new and has been tried before. I even tried return springs on each end. All falling weights and sliding is still falling in this game, all go down. It is the return that becomes the problem. What makes it return? Another fall? Gravity will not allow it to lift high enough or we all would have runners.
Do a few builds and watch what happens. Only the build will show you the problems and then you will come up with better understanding for your next possible design.

The animation looks like the mechanical advantage is pulling in the opposite direction that is should be. The shorter end should be pushed by the longer ends but in the animation the longer ends are pushed by the shorter end somehow. Maybe I'm not seeing it correctly.

Interesting enough. And very simple to build. All you need is a salvaged bike hub, a piece of board with a hole to bolt the hub to, a wood dowel drilled and cut in half to fit over and glue tight around bike hub. And three bars sunk into the wod, and balls. Nick the balls from some billiard room, have them riding on shafts from arrows.
How about this : it might work, but only if you have three distinct "click" positions (a triangle on the back of your hub, and a leaf spring for it to stop against the end of). This primitive ratchet with a "x" force release will allow enough time for what you want to happen to happen. Or not. At least by modifying the leaf spring position length by bending it, you can check out why it bahaves as it does.
First person to call me a genius get's a red dot.

If you think you have an overunity device, think again, there is no such thing. You might just possibly have an unexpectedly efficient device. In which case you will be abducted by MIB and threatened by aliens.

Teokox, hi!
Good imagination and draw skills!
Welcome and thanks for sharing.
For the other side, the rising from 7h to 11h will be a too hard task.
Not sure if this design worth a model.
Best!

PS edition: Nic, you are absolutely not a genius!

Nice animation and presentation. Bummer its taken you 2 years to present it. I cant see any backwards momentum from the impact on the opposite side. All the best with your future builds.

So: yet another experimenter encouraged by several to play the balancing act. Almost everyone is playing the balancing act and it does not work. Maybe you should encourage people to try something else.
Smokin lamas can throw a 12 pound pumpkin 750 feet (smoking lamas #9). It has a hang time of about 9 seconds. Both length of throw and hang time indicate an elevation rise of about 100 meters. Smokin lamas can throw a pumpkin straight up 100 meters.
Let’s assume that the rotational inertia of the wheel is ten times the mass of the pumpkin.
What needs to be figured out is how you rapidly spin a ten times mass wheel with a drop of a one times mass object one hundred meters.
The pumpkin is thrown by the stored motion of the wheel. The throw is made in a fraction of a second and the bicyclist can add only a tiny bit more to the stored energy in the wheel. The pumpkin is thrown by the wheel.
