Dear Path_finder

wow! I hit the play button eleventyseven times..

I am happy to agree with your assessment that the principle of motion seems to be manifestly true.

seems to me that one of your weight assemblies actually loosened on its swing arm axle?...nasty ineffective collision on that one.

May I assume you'll not change diameter of wheel...rather the clutch spring(s) and collision is now your primary focus?

as always...thank you much for sharing

Dear Richard,
Many thanks again for your attention.
A small video below, where you will see a full 'pétanque' game session.
The first part shows how the 'pointeur'(locater) tries to throw his 'boule'(iron ball) at the closest distance of the 'cochonet'(piglet).
But what is almost interesting for our quest is the 'carreau' at 00:35, an action of the 'tireur'(firer) which replace the previous ball by the new one. An excellent example of what we must do.

Like in the movie 'Lamb to the Slaughter' from Alfred Hitchcock, we had the solution under the nose without to take attention furthermore:
http://www.besslerwheel.com/forum/files/rhombj.gif
Recently Richard advised me to use this primemover for my next experiments. I did it and the shot below shows the device.
But only a practical manipulation in hands can connect me to the next step: in the animation the COG (center of gravity) is maintained on the 3:00 radius although the main wheel is permanently in rotation.
How to get this situation in the reality? simple: a lever producing the counter-balance
The mass to lift-up is equal to 4xW. We need a lever able to lift this mass, the fulcrum being the main axis.
Now the important difficulty is coming from the geometry, the crossover of the parts during the rotation.
This is the main reason why this frame below in the first shot cannot be used for this purpose.
But fortunately there is another way to build this frame and allowing this time the implementation of a counterbalance lever.

Many thanks to Richard for his kind comment.
Two shots in complement of the above text and more explicite:
- the first one shows the primemover including the rhomboidal frame and the two centered gears
- the second one shows the modified frame, suppressing the crossover problems thanks the internal crossbar in combination with the two external rods.
Note the presence of the two levers (one on each side) with the main axis as fulcrum. The violet arrow represents the weight of 1Kg needed for counterbalance the COG of the frame.
Experiments in progress.

In the military business there is a tactic forcing the adverse party to reveal its electronic defense parameters.
The most famous example has been the korean Boeing shut down over the Kamchatka peninsula the 1983 1st of september, with the purpose of wake-up the russian electronic systems.
See here: http://www.brianrwright.com/Coffee_Coas ... KAL007.htm
IMHO the purpose of one particular member is to let decide the potential inventors to accelerate the publishing of their working wheel design (supposed by him to discover the secret earlier).
This futile game can be assimilated to a psychological study, taken on a group of paranoid admirers of Bessler.
We don't have so much time and energy to loose for such as of useless exercise. Lets return us to the realistic studies.

Shot of my latest experimented wheel.
The principle is very simple: the keeling point at the top of the wheel (Bessler said 'everything must be reversed'...)
Why this? After the implementation of the rhomboidal frame I observed the inclination of the wheel for rotation if the COG is off-centered (nothing really new!).
If the COG must be taken in an off-centered place, a specific mechanism must do the job.
One solution is to suspend this axle at the top of the outer rim thanks some rollers (I will show that solution later).
But there is a very simple way to get this mechanism: an inverted pendulum
The first drawing below shows the concept: the pseudo keeling point is located at the top of the wheel (for the physicians this is called a metastable equilibrium).
When the COG moves away from this position it is driven back by the bottom bob of the pendulum (the main axis being the fulcrum). The preferred direction is obtained by a pin locking the pendulum in a single side of the excursion (a primitive ratchet/clutch)..
The shot shows my latest wheel, implementing this concept (note the length of the pendulum arm is twice the top arm, allowing to divide the bob weight by two)
As you can see everything is in accordance with the basic laws of the physics.

Dear Path_finder..

..In restoring the top pendule (reset by lower bob)..is there a (heigth/ climbing)...which might neccessitate a half concentric motion..for reset?

and yes...thank you much..this is the business we must tend to.

PF,
when you show an auxiliary pendulum you are talking the Bessler original language in your builds!
Best!

A new attempt based on the famous sentence: 'the cart in front of the horse'
The idea is to use a cart located (by springs) always at the top of the wheel, whatever the position, the rotation and the speed of the wheel.
In the shot below you can see the 'cart', rolling on the both outer rim of the wheel.
By this way I hope to suspend the COG permanently on the 3:00 radius of the wheel.
This shot is for the principle only: I was obliged to make a lot of changes, in particular for the freedom of the rollers path.
The final cart has no axle like in the shot (see the violet crosses), instead you get a trouble. Remember here: http://www.besslerwheel.com/forum/files ... wrong1.png
Very important experiment tomorrow.

Dear Richard,
I guess you were right. Look at the second drawing of this topic:

I hope this could be the solution (building in progress, not tested yet).
The wall where apparently everybody is stopped, is the mechanism allowing the primemover to transfer its torque to the main wheel.
In addition in the same time the primemover must preserve its unbalance during all the rotational motion.
So far there is hereafter IMHO the way how Bessler solved this dilemna:

May be Bessler used some gears, but I don't think so (I explained my opinion about this point earlier).
The gears give to much troubles, and the famous mathematical theorem (about the curves envelopes) demonstrates any assembly of circles can be replace by some adequate rods.
So said, IMHO the wheel includes three couples of parts:

1. The engraved flanges (the 'peacock'), on each side of the wheel, where are sliding the rollers of the two crosses.
2. The two crosses (half size of the main wheel, for the famous hypocycloidal path) with FIVE pins (four rollers and one axle, twice = '55')
3. The two primemovers acting in quadrature, any kind but with a specific design allowing a permanent unbalance in any rotational position, linked to the two crosses thanks the axle.
The two drawings below show the principle (two position steps separated from 22,5 grades). I will show soon a more accurate animation keeping the 3:00 radius position.

IMHO Bessler built a wheel of order four (crosses with 4 arms, peacock with eight groves, primemover with four weights).
The flowerbowl (on order three) on my point of view is much more efficient (less friction losses per example, and a more simpler building).
Now how this principle can be applied to the Keenie/Buzzsaw wheel, I don't know yet.

...the order of such arrangement in the 2nd. plane are seen in Mt(s) 70-74

I'm a "rod" man, if for no other reason...contrates and gears are a difficult build :-(

Awe yes! Perpetual motion is man seeking perpetual motion.

P_F your above design was first proposed By Steve, http://www.besslerwheel.com/forum/profi ... file&u=283

We referred to it as the 'Starwheel' an augmented version of it was under construction when Steve paid me a personal visit and spent a portion of the day with me in the shop reviewing his design.

I built two versions and James Kelley tried at least three that I am aware of. The principle looks good and is also considered a version of Patrick's 'Reciprocator' based on the familiar ellipsograph drawing tool.

http://www.besslerwheel.com/forum/files ... raph_2.jpg

Another version using center axis: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9YVTey5GHQ

The answer you seek is: how do you keep the unit horizontal to the axis, as it will simple bring the whole wheel to keel.
