You have to be given a real choice to have a choice.

How many options does it take to make a real choice? Some people are never happy :D

At least in a democracy there is a chance for changing the tax code. The Occupy movement is a baby step.
Imagine trying to affect change in America's recent past, or in the Arab spring movement, which was started by a man who set himself on fire.

Highly entertaining. As to "paper money" and devaluation, it's been around for at least 2000 years. Some Roman emperors would call in all the coins in circulation, and remint with a lesser content. say they'd call in bronze coins of 100% content, worth their weight in bronze. The reissue was 60% bronze content. Increase in monetary mass 40%. Not giving in the coinage carried in the middle ages the death penalty. Though in the middle ages most of the central (Royal mint) fiddling was on silver coinage. Call in the 100% silver, reissue with 60% copper content. Looks the same. And that explains why there are so many burried treasures. You were richer keeping your coinage and selling it at bullion value.
If you think you have an overunity device, think again, there is no such thing. You might just possibly have an unexpectedly efficient device. In which case you will be abducted by MIB and threatened by aliens.

Ever notice how many political leaders get into power by campaigning change then do nothing when they get in? That is because after they are in there, they realise there is no choice. Presidents of democracies don’t run the country; they are figureheads and if you don’t balance the act then they use persuasion, JFK style. Yes, same “they as before.

Dax,

It has always been my opinion that if a presidential candidate kept all his promises, and was responsible for all that happened while in office, he would not be a president of democracy but a dictator.

That's how the game is played. They all know there is no chance for change before they even begin to campaign. It doesn't help when the Supremes recognize corporations as people.

From my point of view, answering the op's opening question, I don't think a pm device will fundamentally change the world in which we live.

If I was the inventor of such a device I would wrap it up so tightly in Patent and IP law to prevent free global use.

If a government body offered me £££££'s to enable me and my children to live comfortably , would I take it ? Yes. It's better to be at the table eating , than looking at the food through the dining room window.

I have absolutely no desire beyond helping my family and other people I'm directly associated with.

Discuss ....... :-)
