re: The USA is “No. 1”
I've got a few points to make. First is that I didn't find that to be well written, as some of the facts there are stated without comparison to the rest of the world, so that it is not possible to tell if we're No. 1 or not in that category. Additionally, some facts given there aren't even possible to compare to other countries. Second is that I agree with many points, esp. the first 4, the public schools here are aweful. My last point is not a rhetorical question: many people who live here think this isn't a good country, so why do they live here? For ex., if I lived in N. Korea, I'd leave! There must be something keeping Micheal Ventura (the author) in America.

its proberly poverty keeping him in america.
ofcause the publice schools are that way, how else do you think the upper class can keep the working class as they are.
i went to a school that cost 58 ,0000 dollars a year (back in those days)
and many public schools. there was no differance in the ciriculum. its all class. and subjugation exploitation of workers.
conservation and ecology needs to be in the ciriculum, and will be soon. more inmportantly
isnt the usa the biggest producer of c02?
and wernt the forefathers so to speak that wrote the decloration of independance both slave owners?

Did I fly off the handle?
Right Epi, everyone knows that newspaper columnists are homeless and routinely go hungry. Also, last I checked the public schools were run by your average bureaucrat, not the upper class. And lastly whatever slavery thing your bringing up is moot, as they've been dead for 200 years and it is completely unrelated to this topic.

It was just a link to a story, but I think you just liked picking it apart too much... I felt your attempt was only to disect the link for ego sake... I felt a need to respond.Jonathan wrote:Did I fly off the handle?

Of all the other places on earth i'd like to live other than america is australia, I live in the bed of lunacy here... Just yesterday I heard of a highway where they couldn't get people to slow down to the speed limit; ther solution was to increase the speed limit... "everybody skirts the speed limit"... now they'll travel 5-10MPH faster than before "faster" was too fast...epistemologicide wrote:its proberly poverty keeping him in america...
lunacy...
crazy isnt it? and we are pulling out of all these other important enviromental causes while other countries are embracing reality, america is ignoring them...?!?!?!?epistemologicide wrote:isnt the usa the biggest producer of c02?...
I just heard that along with the kyoto withdrawl... now "you know who" is trying to axe the endangered species requirements...?!?!?!? threatening scientist who's data contradicts his own deluded reality and preparing to get us into yet another mess this spring/summer...
it should, but over here the only thing battled over is "creationism vs. evolution" or "sex-ed" garbage...epistemologicide wrote:conservation and ecology needs to be in the ciriculum, and will be soon. more inmportantly...
continuing cuts in school budgets really don't help either...
Oh, I wish I had a better memory right now...epistemologicide wrote:and many public schools. there was no differance in the ciriculum. its all class. and subjugation exploitation of workers...
it's all that way, I remember a story on how the goverment was influencing school curiculum specifically to steer students into low paying careers and cut programs to just what was neccesarry to be a good corporate drone...
duplicity is in human nature... It could have been worse, they could have been slave owners and never cared anymore about it...epistemologicide wrote:and wernt the forefathers so to speak that wrote the decloration of independance both slave owners?
Its important to strive for a better understanding and realization of fundamental concepts of "right and wrong"...

re: The USA is “No. 1”
If nothing else the USA is probably No. 1 in promoting the ideals of corporate mentality - profit today at the expense of tomorrow. I think the real problem is when that ideology creeps into public policy making. The corporate ideal would work just fine if we were'nt interested in the future of our childrens children.
Maybe one day, hopefully soon, the real leaders of the World - corporations - will have a change of heart and decide there is a bigger picture than the one expressed in their annual profit charts. Then again, who am I to dare such an opinion :)

Now, now Oxy, which of us is the one using more exclaimation points? By my count I'm winning the handle-flying-race, 1 vs 6. I encourage you to reread my post, wherein the first point (and a half) was a critique that this man did a so-so job writing bullet points, which honestly is not very hard. But with my second point I added emphasis to some of his points. My third point is a legitimate question, which I ask so often, and never get an answer. Certaintly none of you can answer for Ventura, but I can ask many of you the same question. For ex., if it is such a bed of lunacy where you are, why do you not move to Australia, Oxy; or at least a less loony area inside the US? I'm completely serious, I go out of my way to avoid things I don't like. If I have a tack in my foot, I don't tell other people how I dislike it, I just remove it. Again, I don't mean to be facetious or confrontational, I merely hear this often and am just as perplexed by it as I am of the Bessler mystery.

re: The USA is “No. 1”
I agree that the USA is in decline. We are certainly now the world's largest debtor nation. Our currency continues to sink on the world currency markets. And our government must now borrow 5 BILLION dollars every DAY to maintain the illusion of solvency. Meanwhile, we continue to run up the national debt as we try to make the rest of the world safe for democracy.
If the Chinese and the Indians ever stop buying our government IOU's, then a vast percentage of our current population of 300 million people can expect to experience a BIG decline in their standards of living. When that happens, we can probably expect it to be followed by a massive social upheavel, the likes of which this country has not yet seen.
To remedy these many problems, I would recommend that we adopt the strictest possible budget measures NOW. No more government borrowing. Introduce a simple flat tax rate and then adjust spending to match actual tax revenue. I would also put this country back on the gold standard. EVERY paper dollar issued MUST be backed with a specified weight of pure gold and fully redeemable for that amount of gold.
There are many other emergency measures that need to be adopted, but the above are the "core" of what I consider critical in the coming years. And, of course, the development of free energy devices is imperative...

On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ

You and your group of o/u cohorts keep tearing my ideas apart...
I'm kidding...
It just gets me that people keep using this "its better than everything else" idea to attempt to undermine the validity of an obvious growing problem... as if to say we have nothing to worry about...
Maybe, I have been reading too many stories about how our government is screwing everything up and it seems that even myself and all those around me seem to be helpless in doing anything about it... other than gripe about it...
the impending war this summer and the parrot act, etc...
not the bird...
Oxygon worries too...
maybe too much...
maybe not enough...

re: The USA is “No. 1”
I agree Ken, I just heard yesterday that 40% of the US federal budget goes to welfare programs, and that 63% is spending that is not only required by law to be spent but is also required to increase every year. That leaves 37% for discretionary spending, which they project will fall to 0% in 30 years (because the mandatory spending keeps increasing).

My 2 ¢, as an outsider.
If you live in the US you probably will have no idea about how much you are, in fact, a leader. A leader at facts and so as a ''modernity model''.
You may not evaluate exactly the size and strengh (so as consequences) you have.
With some 5% of world people, you expend 25% of all global energy and you'll find this just fine and ok. (just to mention a single data)
Better for you, if you do and if you can do it.
Everything costed, and will cost, to americans A LOT of work and effort, and competence. You got to a kind of mastershipp in all this.
Major problem, I see, is that your leadership envolves also a *very heavy global responsability*, since all you do will cause ressonance in other parts of planet.
Your situation as US citysens is much more transcendent to that of your normal and dayly local affairs. Pls, be conscious!
If US is not OK, everybody will lose abroad; and we are too fragile.
This is why intelligent and pragmatic people will wish all the best to you in the US!
