....is simply another adage of "no fall,no power",the smallest possible prime observation, recording of a natural fact...to start thinking about a "perhaps" gravity engine.
If so...you imagination of this "phantom" ...is free to be apparent to your sences or the mind.

re: More fall,more power...
....or a greater "fall" in gravity of an unbalanced weight-counterweight system (let's say an "Atwood machine) can store, amass more and more rotational KE (see "Atwood machine with a heavy pulley").
In this situation we "slow-down" the natural acceleration "g" into a=m1-m2/m1+m2,and the falling velocity from v=gt to v=at.
We can see that time (or the size of our arrangement) becomes a "resourceful" factor.
By the way:if we have the famous "zero sum game" for a single mass round "trip" in a potential field, this time we play two masses.
Even more:we must take into consideration the general frame, the basics or the first low (inertia).
A little experience can upset a lot of theory...

re: More fall,more power...
.....in a fast river flow (a kind of "fall",due to gravity, also ) is related obviouly to more disponible power.
A river/"liquid" flow,between other features ,is a continuous,uninterrupted process with a certain velocity.
For a mass (solid state) free gravity fall ,velocity is a function of time (v=g*t ).
If we intend more power in a gravity process,we need more fall, that is more velocity (you can "read" time ),but we must "pay",changing the rhythm : the state of going of the fall/ "flow" needs to be discontinuous, interupted.

The mechanism I proposed will achieve a fall signifigantly greater than the heigth of the lift. It's the one where a hole is drilled into an axel, linear bearings inserted, then a rod through it; an equal weight on each end of the rod. The heigth of the lift dictates the extent of overbalance. The length of the rod dictates the distance of the fall.
So, my thinking was inline with yours on this. More heigth should equal more energy released per cycle. In the above example, adding extra heigth does not require more energy to perform the lift, since you merely use a longer rod to get a longer fall. (rod should be light enough that adding more length shouldn't add an appreciable amount of weight)
No one has run calculations on it yet, though. I don't know if that method is of use to other builders or not. It just seems different from what I've seen others trying.
All the best, Alex.

re: More fall,more power...
....is related, this time, to the time factor.
If we have an extended fall, between two gravitational levels we can get on an inclined plane.
We must remind that, the incline is one of the two basic concepts of mechanics (we must include lever...leverage).
The "world" of the imaginable inclined planes is huge...if we take a look in the Cosmos.
Our problem is to obtain energy in a new manner:from gravity fall.
For this,we must make a final movement ,in this "chess" virtual game with time:m*a*t,or...checkmate.
The storage is a minor problem:inertia...rotational inertia.

Hi iacob alex ,
If I have a cyl of 4kg with a 1 kg small weight inside with clamps on either end to contain the 1 kg weight when needed , connected to a bar on a axel with a 5 kg weight on the opposite end on a pivot , and I let the small weight fall from the top , I have a imbalance for a short time in the bar , and make the bar rotate . This can only happen once in 360 deg of rotation , as the 2 weights is of equal mass it will just coast to stop due to friction . If I fill the cyl with a different medium than air , say , water , the fall will be much slower , and the time delay much longer but not as powerfull . All will say , the time you put the weight in the water the mass is the same , but the small mass have to reach the bottom before equilibrium is reached , just the same as in the air filled cyl . If you multiply the cyl to 6 or 12 , and rotate the cyl once in 180 deg you will be ready for the next 360 deg .
just a thought .
Daan .

re: More fall,more power...
.....can be acquired ,increasing something contributing to a such result.
There are three ways:
-the height, that implies enlarging the dimension (we play"h")
-the resistive counterpart of the motrice action (we play "t"/time)
-to play "h" and "t"
Daan, you know...your own test can be the best teacher.
