re: New feature: Blogs
Private forums (and blogs) obviously provide members with more choices for presenting their pet theories and/or designs, hopefully having them discussed, dissected, argued, proved (or otherwise) by other members of their own choice... then, as is common with a private forum, some form of resolution or stalemate eventually results and it falls into disuse as it's members exhaust their input and move on. Private forums usually have a specific purpose and a limited life.
I don't think private forums, as a BW feature, have faded and died. I certainly do think that the individual private forums tend to naturally go that way, but the facility is obviously ready and waiting to swing into action next time it's needed. As John said, total respect to you Scott and thanks for spoiling us with choices :)

Hmm, thanks a lot for letting me know Ralph. I am at work now but will look into it as soon as I get home.
Fwiw, when I click "View all entries" it comes up fine with my own account and with my testuser account. Can anyone else reproduce Ralph's error?
Thanks,
Scott

OK thanks for the info, Jim. It always helps to have as much information as possible when debugging these things.

re: New feature: Blogs
Joel,
possibly the reason you can not open my blog is that I have not got around to finishing my list of buddies and friends that are allowed access.
I shall add your name immediately, and sorry for the inconvenience.

re: New feature: Blogs
Double hmm. That is a very strange one indeed. I took a close look at the code and I do not see how that error can happen. Select * should always work. I added ME to my own contact list and to testuser's contact list with no problem.
As far as the trouble with your blog, I think you are missing one key element: your Contact List buddies are not the same as your Blog friends. Contact Lists are for the whole discussion board. There is a *new* list called Friends that is managed through your blog. You'll see the link in the side column near the top.
Hopefully this will help clear up some of the issues.
Best,
Scott

re: New feature: Blogs
Scott,
I get 2 private messages from the system when I am added to the buddy list. I guess you can tell the time when that happened.
Do you need me to test something? Or is the castatrofy inevitable?

re: New feature: Blogs
No, no catastrophe is inevitable. :-) I was just adding you to my buddy list and to testuser's buddy list to see if I could reproduce the problem that Ralph was seeing. Unfortunately I could not.
re: New feature: Blogs
Scott,
still recieving the below message when I click on "Add buddies under the Disussion Board Contact list. I also am having a personal computer problem which I will discusse over on the proper topic thread. It may relate to this but I do not know how.

re: New feature: Blogs
OK, sorry to hear that Ralph, I really have no idea how that could be happening and I cannot reproduce it.
Just so we are clear though, you *do not* need to be adding any buddies to your contact list at all. In fact the contact list buddies really do not have much value, I really added that mod for the "ignore" and "disallow contact" options it provides.
To manage who can post to your blog, you need to be adding people to your *Friends* list, which is accessed from your main blog page.
OK?
