Recently I was thinking about something like this... (see attached animation) but my WM2D skills are not enough to verify it.

Hey Max,

How did you post the animation.

Hey Jon,

The animation is a typical animated gif. I used freeware microsoft gif animator to create it - I realised that only with this program the animation is shown properly in attachments window. You can download this program from :
http://www.gifmania.com/Util/soft/microsoftgig.htm. (it is English version and you need to paste this link in address line because clicking this link opens only gifmania.com)
Another site:
http://teachertech.rice.edu/Materials/gifanim.html
is a good guide on how to use the animator.
Typically I set the resolution 320x240 pixels - the animation fits in the attachment window and size of the file is not too big.

Cheers!

I have a program called 'Xoom Photo' on my old computer. With it I can reduce the file size of a gif by reducing the number of colors. This works great in reducing the size of animated gifs that I make using MS gif animator. But, alas, it's an old windows 3.1 program and just refuses to run on my new Windows-XP computer.

hi

Using magnetics is a good idea , but in 1777 was there the strong magnets we have now ? i think not, the best thing i have seen using magnetics was the invention by that most learned of men Mr Perendev , who invented the magnetic generator, which fior some reason , did not get coverage on television , it as a marvellous ork and practical plus hed moved from south africa to germany to launch it but the last i heard as tht hed had death threats , and went quiet , if anyone knos if he succeeded in producing his machine apart from the promotional ones , could you let me know please., as it was inspirational .
by the way if anyone decides to play around with ceramic magnets . please be careful as they nearly cut one of my fingers off as their attraction is incredibly quick and force full.

Could a ball or weight with the correct diameter and distance of travel be included as a helper?
Attached is two ideas that I thought of that work from the motion of the seesaw.
If you put a ball on a platform and keep it rolling back and forth it can put it's weight over the up side while starting to roll to the down side.

Just an idea to toy with.

The rejection by the magnet is the output - the problem is the force to put it in front of the magnet. Symmetry rules.
Oh well.
Need a way to turn permanent magnets on and off :)

The whole magnetic phenomena is interesting especially when you see new magnetic materials that are molecular - American Chemical Society
"Designer Magnets" Oct2 1995 C&EN.
By designing molecules to enhance electron spin coupling chemists are constructing new classes of magnetic materials.
Not knowing is not the problem. It is the knowing of what just isn't so.

It is our responsibilities, not ourselves, that we should take seriously.

I agree with your statement.

I think the whole permanent magnet research and production is about to change now.
I think it will be possible to use the new flexible magnetic material to act as an on off in such a way as to be used for power.
It could lead to the self running wheel we seek.

Yes, LIB. Let's hope that these changes will be in good direction.
Below I attach my new magnet idea. I wanted to set magnets more and less "dense" to force the central magnet to rotate by seeking less dense repelling field and more dense attracting field. What you think?
