Besslers prime mover and its enabler.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
I have managed to tidy things up with the version with eight weights and I have linked all 4 balancing mechanisms together.
This means that in reality only one is needed but its easier for me to do the sim this way.
You will see that everything is more uniform in its action and I have a feeling that 16 weights would work better.
Next thing I must do is build the simpler one in WM2D and see how it behaves.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Good idea to cross check in wm2d Graham .. fwiw when I ran your sims and shut the motor off after it had started it sometimes just fell off the page for no apparent reason ..
So I tried starting it with the motor OFF from the get go - one time it reversed direction CCW and sped up - another time it fell off the page - another time it was unstable and reversing directions ..

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Hi Fletcher all that sounds rather odd and I haven't noticed anything like that myself.
Can you try the very last one I posted and let me know what it does.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
I started the sim and then left clicked on the axle located motor - up came a box - I deactivated the motor - the sim fell off the page ..
So I started the sim for a short while and right clicked on the motor and turned it OFF - the sims angular velocity steadily increased as seen in the lhs metrics ..
So I right clicked on the motor and turned it OFF - started the sim ( no motor input - gravity only ) and the sims angular velocity steadily increased as seen in the lhs metrics ..
For me, it appears it will gain Angular velocity whether the motor starts it revolving or whether initial imbalance starts it revolving iows the motor input is redundant ..

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Hi Fletcher yes the motor on that one I could have been left off because aside from anything else the wheel was already in motion. That's how I got things lined up on it. The more basic one had to be turned with the motor.
I will have to check it out in WM2D.
This is certainly a new one on me because I've never seen Algodoo behave quite like this.
Its a bit like the oscillators I showed early on in the topic but they were quite fussy about the weights and this isn't.
I will leave it for WM2D to decide.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Hi Roxaway59: seems to be something wrong with the SIM. I tore it down to here and it is still running. I don’t understand how you got those two circles so thin and still added pivots to them. If you try to get rid of a pivot it deletes the whole rod.
Lots of work but something is majorly wrong.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Hmmmph... Tore it down to here and still running with only one pivot to the outer ring. Take off that pivot and it stops.
What goes around, comes around.
Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Hi daxwc, I have not checked this out properly myself yet but after what Fletcher said it wouldn't surprise me if something was wrong.
I made the first one I posted months ago and then for some reason I left it. So I cant remember how I put it together but its clear that I have made one or two parts invisible and I sometimes do that to make things easier to see.
One thing I can do is build a fresh one and see what it does.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Just bear in mind that this could be to do with the recent update to Algodoo.
I haven't updated mine yet because I usually wait to see what happens.
I have thousands of simulations and if anything happens to them so that I cant run them properly anymore it would be a bit upsetting.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
I am still running the old version as I don't have the newest Windows. So hopefully you are good.

Bonjour Roxaway,
Hello Roxaway,
I’m still on the previous version of Algodoo!
I managed to remove the rotation on your two models.
I have put them both in balance position.
I added the rubbing.
The two wheels accelerate!
The second wheel accelerates on average to 32 Rad/s.
The balance wheel ends up turning around the wheel without disturbing the rotation!
I transferred the second wheel into a template of my version of algodoo and it still works!

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Thanks Shadow. I don't know what to make of it at the moment.
It could be just be another bug in Algodoo. At the moment I'm struggling to recreate it from scratch because I have forgotten how I made it in the first place.
Do you think you could make your own version just to replicate the idea?

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
Hi daxwc, I managed to do a version of the basic one with 2 weights and it certainly is not straight forward to do.
Have a play with this sim dax and see how it behaves. It does act similar to the other one and it does go over unity still in Algodoo so as I have said it must now be checked in WM2D.
Shadow I think it would be great if you could replicate it with your version thanks.

Re: Besslers prime mover and its enabler.
I don’t know what to say Roxaway59. If I take the motor off; then erase all the outer ring pivots but one, it still runs. No idea what is wrong with the SIM. Try starting over from scratch and make the outer ring thicker and make sure the pivots goes in the middle???
I don’t know I am no SIM expert. 8) sorry. I almost wish I didn't bring it up.
