There is no wheel at all in the back plane of the animation: the green circle is just fictious, showing the path of the free lozenge summits.
Instead there is only a cross (in yellow) which is essential and must NOT be removed.
Don't remove it: this is the most important part of the assembly, assuming the synchronization between the two centers (fulcrum and COG).
On a mechanical point of view we must attach only one arm of the yellow cross to the wheel and leave free the second one.
I apologize for the small size not really easy for an accurate observation, I will try to make a bigger one.
