Good idea, I'll try to look into it. If I forget don't hesitate to remind me again.

Is any one besides me experiencing the following problem?

I get the usual yellow flag on threads with new posts. After opening and reading these posts the yellow icon is staying yellow. Thinking it may be posts from ignored users I cleared my ignore list. It did not help.

I am getting a yellow flag even on my own posts that will not go out.

My smilies have disapeared. Pffft. Gone. Kaput. Can neither see them to use when posting, not see them in other people's posts.

Have I unintentionally disabled them ?

Traditionally smilies have always been turned off here on this forum. Which is why we use the smilies abbreviations. :))

Ralph, try clicking the "Mark all topics read" link near the upper right of each forum exhibiting the problem.

Ealadha, You must be popular. Most people don't get that many hits on youtube.

At the top of the page under the discussion board in the heading says Private Messages. Click on it.

Ealadha, the 65535 unread messages is a computer programming glitch. Scott is aware of the problem, but has not been able to track down the exact cause. The program uses a two byte integer variable to store the number of unread messages, which has a range between 0 and 65535. For some reason the program does not subtract correctly as you read and delete messages, thus rolling the variable below zero, which causes it to then display 65535 or sometimes slightly smaller.

Just ignore it! Whenever it reads such a large number then you have zero unread private messages.

Jim is exactly right. Thanks Jim!

The issue is hard to track down is because it is entirely intermittent. Usually it works fine but every now and then something goes wrong. I don't know what.

In the meantime I just periodically fix the database when someone notices it.

Thanks,
Scott

I'm not a big fan of the ignore feature.

I have used it recently with new posters, but I don't just want their posts deleted (or hidden), I even want their name not to be visible nor their post titles come up on the "show new posts" feature.

Hm, Dr What, the ignore feature is supposed to totally remove the person from your view. Maybe it has some bugs?

<edit>
Maybe this explains it: http://eplaya.burningman.com/faq.php?mode=contact#8
"The Ignore List tries to remove all traces of the user on pages when you view them. If you look at a topic containing posts by the ignored user, the posts will not be displayed. Topics that have no replies (or only one reply, if it is also by an ignored user) will not be displayed in the topic list. The user will also not be listed in the member list or lists of users currently online."

Maybe you see topics started by ignored users if non-ignored users have replied? I might be able to hack the php code to change that if enough people want it.

Apparently I still do not know how to place more than one quote....I.e I quote...then try another quote and it goes back to the first quote...I did search the user topics....there is nothing specifically, I find...to tutor me in the quote function.
