Hi Fletcher
After your last post. I am glad of my choice of physical law interpretation.
I am aware of the profound use of symmetry and invariance with time, translational, rotation etc.
The problem with invariance is the absolute nature it implies. That invariance gifts consistency.
Can formulation and experimental observations be consistent and at the same moment variant?
For this to be possible and one symmetry needs to change too compensate for another to changing.
Anyway back to Bessler. It is going to take me some time, pun intended, to create the SFH with hard springs on each side of the pendulum.
I expect no one would normally build such a simulation. Then again what is normal?
We know intuitively this model goes nowhere. However there is one small alteration to this
simulation.
One small change, a rock that needs to be looked under, to check out a possibility; of a gold nugget of truth.

Hope will always exist while there are rocks to look under, so I applaud you for making the effort to build your own sim program and investigate where you think off-the-shelf sims do not tell the whole story. That's the point of sims and builds .. prove or disprove something, and learn from that experience.Agor wrt SFH spring variation .. wrote:...We know intuitively this model goes nowhere. FWIW you will have something in common with jim_mich .. he originally used WM but thought it was lacking in some areas of interest to him, so he ditched it and built his own animated programing in Visual Basic - that meant he built formulas for forces and interactions from the ground up from first principles, as it does for you. You'll be the second person who has attempted that afaik.
I'll make you a promise .. build your sim to investigate under your rock. And when you publish your results and conclusions I'll attempt to replicate and verify your sim in WM .. then we can compare results and discuss why one might be different from the other or what workarounds can be made etc.
Happy programing ..

You read my mind with regards peer review.Fletcher wrote: ↑Mon Feb 20, 2023 7:33 pm I'll make you a promise .. build your sim to investigate under your rock. Of cause the first reviewer will be the conservation laws.
So Jim had a visual basic product. I was thinking; do I have any operating system around that can copy with that language?

Re: SFH sim
I expect the visual basic was used within an excel spreadsheet.
Shame that was not passed on to the members here too continue his legacy.

If you really want to use visual basic or c# or c++ or java or whatever (to many to name) , you can download and install microsoft visual studio community and inastall your microsoft choice of language.
If you want an editor with a small footprint and a massive support for languages you can download and install visual studio code ,then add your language.
I use both microsoft visual studio community and visual studio code , they are great for developer environments .

Its all relative.

My first computer language was BASIC [Beginners All-purpose Symbolic Instruction Code] invented at Dartmouth navel college UK. Now I support more languages than I can remember. The value present in Jim's work is the formulas and algorithms present in the code.
The language is secondary for they all have the same logical foundation with variation of syntax and implementation. So moving from one language to another is possible.
