The general rule is to block remote access and control to devices.
If you think wise to allow this then uninstall the access software as soon as possible.

I live in a world were you can trust your own children to come into your computer, from anywhere on this planet, to fix all the shit you get wrong when you don't know what you're doing, or to help you understand stuff.
I think it is wonderful to be able to do this, and would highly recommend it, to anyone who makes mistakes with their googley thingies.
Just don't do it if your child is an African prince, or they work in India at a Microsoft repair shop.

Joking aside, anyone you can trust in the real world, can generally be trusted in the computer world too. Just don't do it with people you only know in the computer world.

Ok I am suddenly seeing this problem now too.

I see errors in the logs about a possible database corruption issue that I don't understand.

I have tried but am not getting good help from my hosting provider on it.

Ok I think I might have fixed it by emptying out the problematic database table.

I'm not sure what all the possible side effects of such a drastic operation might be though.

Joking aside, anyone you can trust in the real world, can generally be trusted in the computer world too. Just don't do it with people you only know in the computer world.

That is fair advice. The only extra is when an application is put on your system so it can be taken over by someone you trust.
Then it's there for others to hack.

So having a way in is fine just bolt the way in when not in use. The simplest way is uninstalling the application.

It has something to do with a database corruption that happened outside of my control. The website code has not changed in years and then suddenly there were a bunch or errors starting with a problem creating a cache file on my hosting provider's servers.

It has something to do with the forum trying to keep track of read/unread posts. I could maybe workaround the problem by disabling that feature but that's certainly less than ideal.

Could you look at removing registered users that do not post more than 1 message and have not login for a year.

Reducing the registered users that are bots etc will help the system as tracking unread messages for non-active users
could be a part of the problem.

I think Agor's suggestion is a good one.
If my understanding is correct, this could be what is going on.
Before the problem of the white screen, the time between posting a post, and the post being posted and the previous page being shown, was getting longer and longer.
If the server limit is being reached it will struggle to accomplish the command, and if the limit is surpassed it will not follow through with any command, and give the 500 error.
I think it is definitely worth getting shot of all accounts with only 1 post as Agor suggests.
I remember with some games, when my internet connection was really crap, i would have the option to "remove all caches" or "remove temporary caches" or something along those lines. They might not have been called caches (most were in French for me) but they allowed the games to work without problems, until they built up to many and i would get rid of them again.
is it possible to give us that option on the forum, a button to get rid of the unnecessary stuff that causes excess work? Or does it already exist and i don't know where it is?
