FDA in 1999 ruled it isn't safe or effective. Silver isn't necessary for body function. Taken excessively it can build up in organs to toxic levels. One side effect is argyria, condition in which skin, nails, eyes, organs and gums turn bluish gray. I would stick with traditional medicine.

Argyria is caused by exposure to large silver molucules/dust that gets trapped in the skin, not due to oral consumption. Long ago miners were exposed to silver dust and many of them had this condition. Also a few people who produced their own colloidal silver, using not-so-good practices, washed with it for many years and did turn greyish to blue. I work for a pharmaceutical and we have researched silver and our statisticians and scientists found no issues related to the product using modern day manufacturing techniques, but that doesn't stop the companies and less informed from continually using this as a scare tactic. You may have recently heard that some pharmaceuticals are planning on adding silver to their existing antibiotics as a reformulation. They claim the silver will inactivate the pathogens and then their antibiotics will have a chance at destroying it. However what you must ask is, is the silver actually doing all the work, and the reformulation simply a way for the pharmaceuticals to renew their prized drug patients for another 7 year term? No one profits from a generic drug. It is amazing how it worked long ago, but then suddenly became bad when it started interfering with the profits of the pharmaceuticals. Colloidal silver is taking a huge chunk of cash out of the pockets of doctors and pharmaceuticals and they continue to lobby the FDA to regulate the product. As far as the limited FDA rulings are concerned, you only need to look as far as their political benefactors to see how they rule. Everyone needs to do their own research and come to an intellectual decision based on the facts, not false and outdated information.

It was never very effective. Modern antibiotics much more effective.

I'd stick with modern drugs.
