Merseburg1, What I see..

re: Merseburg1, What I see..
John,
A very good explanation and thank you for the input. I am quite sure that a wheel of 400 lbs. @ 20 rpm could lift 60 to70 lbs. of brick by a 6 to 8" axle used as a spool or wench.
I have a question about this, the pictures show a one part line, and I believe I read in text that it was a four part line commonly referred to as as block and tackle, and the rising of the brick was slow. If this is so, then the wheel would have been lifting 23.3 lbs with a time element of x3.
It has been calculated by an unnamed source that you are aware of, that this comes out to approx. 25 watts.
I would be happy to achieve a proof of concept that just ran itself.

Jonathan,Jonathan wrote:That lift and carry part is important, it wouldn't be possible to remove the wheel from the supports without lifting it, at least a little.
I alone could easily remove the supports from the axle using two chocks and one brick from the lifting basket. As well as achieve an inclined plane to get the wheel moving.

re: Merseburg1, What I see..
This discussion starts to paint a little different picture of the wheel.A great accomplishment, yes. But perhaps not the mighty dynamo I had envisioned. At that time, before generators and the like,it might not have been so impressive to come and see that you had to have this giant wheel AND a complicated rigging system AND pay all that money just to VERY SLOWLY move a 70lb box of bricks which you could easily pick up and carry yourself.Maybe this was why the idea never caught on.
Trying to turn the spinning in my brain into something useful before moving on to the next life.
re: Merseburg1, What I see..
Sleepy, the rigging's not that complicated, just a few pulleys. Also, PM doesn't sleep, unlike people.
Ralph, I think the eyewitnesses said that the pulley was reduced four times, so that would be about 17.5 and 4x the time.

Jonathan,
I'm just saying that at that point in time,it probably didn't seem that practical to pay a ton of money for a machine that worked more slowly than a human, and had limited applications for Joe Public.True,it did not sleep, but it needed constant supervision to do it's work.We understand that it would have been a paltry sum to have the secret of PM shown to us,but that may be because
A.It still hasn't been solved some 300 years later.
B.We have practical applications that could make wonderful use of such a device, and make you your money back plus some in a short time.
Imagine going to your spouse and saying,"Honey,I'm going to spend a million dollars on a machine that will very slowly bring your laundry up from the basement."

Answers to your questions.
What is the longest your wheel has turned by itself before you stopped it?
A) Less than 20 turns
B) 20 to 30 turns
C) Too many to count
Up to ten minutes with me keeping it slow.
How does your wheel start?
A) From any position.
B) Only from a certain 'best' position
C) Needs a push to start.
B. Always with the best spoke at 6;30, and only with that spoke. their is Always to much friction with this machine, because of the way it is built.
It takes more to start from a dead stop, then it does when it is moving.
How well made are the wheel parts?
A) Well made professionally machined parts
B) Poor quality hand made parts with torch cut weights of uneven size.
C) Medium quality home made parts.
B & C Not very well made.
I wish it was A.
Have you ever tested the output of your wheel?
A) Yes
B) Wheel never ran long enough to test.
C) No
C. never had a break or a generator, hocked up to it.
Now, would you please answer the question I sent you?
As for video, I would suggest that no one send a video to anyone else, without permission.

re: Merseburg1, What I see..
First, lets forget about the hammers and the hanging box.
This leaves the wheel and pendulums.
The wheel is made of wood and by itself, not very heavy. I would say for this reason, the need for extra weight is required. This weight may just be the added balls, for a heavier flywheel.
I did an experiment with a falling weight on the end of a spoke, of which was about three feet long. I let go of the weight when it was just past the twelve o'clock position. It falls and goes up the other side to about 9:30 - 10:00 o'clock.
This leaves only 2 hours or 60 degrees to overcome, before it would start all over again.
The swing of the pendulums is , or what it looks like to me, about that needed 60 degrees of swing.
Maybe it is the 60 degrees of pendulum swing that helps the wheel get back to the top of its rotation?
What bothers me is that the wheel would have to be started, at a ceratin location, each time it was started.
Darrell
PS. I have never taken physics or have a great deal of macanical training. I am just saying what I see.

re: Merseburg1, What I see..
Then I'm just going to say what I see Darrell. I see someone who claims they have a working wheel and then continues to discuss how Bessler's wheel might have worked, possible ways to make a wheel work, etc.
I was willing to give you the benefit of the doubt with this topic because maybe you were trying to find ways to put your wheel to work similar to Bessler, but now I highly doubt that is your intent.
Why spend so much time on other matters? You have a working wheel! Nothing else should matter now...you have a working wheel! Put'er there pal...you have a working wheel!
Here is your "working" wheel:
http://www.rayflex.com/misc/000_0356.MOV
What the hell is that? That could be anything! If you are going to take the time to even make a video, you'd better get something useful. And don't complain when people are critical of you when you make a claim to have a working wheel.

SSMITH & JONATHAN, HAS JUST COMPIMIZED OVER TWENTY YEARS OF WORK AND YOU WONDER WHY I WILL NOT SEND THE WHOLE VIDEO.
I HOPE WHAT THEY HAVE JUST DONE, WILL ANSWER THAT QUESTION.

Oh boo hoo!
You also seem to be an unstable person, one minute normal type...the next minute ALL CAPS!
Then your response should have been "I don't want to say because I don't want to jeapordize my business plan".Do you:
A) have a working device, and by working I mean a wheel that will continue to turn on it's own indefinitely?
YES, I DO!

re: Merseburg1, What I see..
It used to be all caps all the time. It's really too bad that he's now spreading lies about me, I've done nothing immoral or illegal. I can physically prove that I received the video I gave to ssmith before I signed the nondiscloser. I can also prove that the nondiscloser I sent is technically invald, implied in Darrel's own words.
Darrel, I've not asked you recently for a whole video, I'm not interested since I've already proven using mere high school physics that claims you made to me are physically inconsistent with each other.

re: Merseburg1, What I see..
I viewed the video, http://www.rayflex.com/misc/000_0356.MOV
I too find it uninspiring, showing little BUT I am finding out myself that just "giving it all away" may not be right.
I do wonder why he used a video camera to shoot the TV screen, since the video from the camera had to be captured into the computer anyway, why not just wire it direct? Perhaps to hide something?(the odd and unessary zoom?) Does the wheel make any noise? Mine will be pretty noisy with at least 2 bangs/rev.

I hope to see something work soon-by someone!!

re: Merseburg1, What I see..
It does seem strange for a person to be sitting on top of the biggest discovery in recent history,a device which defies science itself, and could bring the inventor untold fame and fortune, and still be sitting here discussing 300 year old engravings.I think it's safe to say that anyone else would be literally bouncing off the walls.Especially with million dollar challenges and Nobel prize money just waiting there.Hook that puppy up to an ultra efficient generator and let people in the middle of nowhere have water and power and a hospital.VANDUGEGS,if you have indeed succeeded where we all have failed,I applaud your creation. If you are pulling my chain, well,I'm not surprised by much anymore.I'll stop working on my wheel and start gardening as soon as I see you and your working wheel on TV.
