Hi SHADOW,
Yes, that's great! Right, more details have to be worked out, that's for sure. However, the most important thing is your drawing gives a 'sense' of how it's supposed to work. To help every one to grasp the Idea of it. It's worth a 1,000 words as they say. I think it was better with the larger rings, like you had in your very first drawing, with the gears. If you want to change it that is.

If you have any questions please let me know. And, you are right about the flat. For it to work the roller has to get up and over it. Just have to try it and see, if that will happen.

My computer skills, or the lack there of, is a disgrace to the whole forum, I'm sorry to say-----------Sam

SHADOW, The Idea is quite simple and, your drawing demonstrates the concept of it. Now, I have to prove that it will work-------------Sam

Why would it work? The ball will always lag the wheels turning, hindering it rather than turning it.

Tarsier79,
First of all It might not work. However, the rollers follow the drum quite faithfully, neither helping or hurting as far as I know, except for friction of coarse. Since they are smaller then the drum, they rotate a little bit faster than the wheel. The 'turning' of the rollers don't do much, if any thing, as far as helping the wheel to turn. It's just a good way to shift the weights in and out by making them round. The rollers are the weights.

Here's what has to happen, starting at 12:00, with a roller lifted up onto the flat section of the drum. It rolls out very quickly and causes the wheel to be momentarily top heavy, which will make it turn. When the roller gets back to the bottom it is now balanced and, returns to the top of the wheel. All of that will happen. The question is; will the wheel have enough momentum to get the next roller back up on top of the flat place? This I still don't know. It's the most critical part of it. However, I have stumbled on a way to lift the weights back up; which is a major break through, and, has been the most difficult problem to solve.

Have I answered your question(s), Tarsier--------------------Sam

Is that where the balls would sit? How fast is this thing supposed to be going, 0 RPM?

It doesn't matter how many flywheels one evenly distributes around an axle; they all can be reduced to a single flywheel on the axle at the end of the day.

. . . or in the middle of the day

. . . or even before the cock crows 3 times

it's all the same.

SHADOW,
That isn't very reassuring! One drum is heavier than the other. I have to swap them around and try it again. Maybe, there is some thing that can be learned, that the computer doesn't know, one can only hope. I'll let you know what happens---------------------------Sam

Has nothing to do with you, Shammy. We be talking 'bout your idea.

Upon close reflection, I've concluded there's no merit in it.

Nothing personal.

Now if you made a video of it spinning behind a veil and claimed it was PM, I'd follow you and click on your commercials. No skin off my pa·too·tie.

I have to ask, why can't you do that for me?

I meant to mention, there should be some periodic gradient between the two masses, particularly if they are unequal, that might be and used to be the cause of their continued rotation.
This was my thought about your original idea, Shammy.

Now you've added so many bells and whistles to it, the original idea is un·rec·og·niz·a·ble.

Next thing you know, you're going to paint it. That should assure it will never work.
