See attachment and note the word Variance.

http://www.besslerwheel.com/forum/viewt ... 324#137324

If you think about it, the Finsrud is also explained.

That ball is going up and down an almost imperceptible hill. Energy is taken from the ball approaching the bottom of the hill and given back as it approaches the top. The gain in momentum is sufficient to take it over the top.

So the Finsrud is indeed a gravity mill, albeit a very inefficient one.

"Notice that the smaller the ruler, the longer the resulting coastline. It might be supposed that these values would converge to a finite number representing the "true" length of the coastline. However, Richardson demonstrated that this is not the case: the measured length of coastlines, and other natural features, increases without limit as the unit of measurement is made smaller.[15] This is known nowadays as the Richardson effect.

At the time, Richardson's research was ignored by the scientific community. Today, it is considered an element of the beginning of the modern study of fractals. Richardson's research was quoted by mathematician Benoît Mandelbrot in his 1967 paper How Long Is the Coast of Britain? Richardson identified a value (between 1 and 2) that would describe the changes (with increasing measurement detail) in observed complexity for a particular coastline; this value served as a model for the concept of fractal dimension."

Yep. Fractals are good, indeed.

And like the members of this forum LFR was well ahead of his time and also ignored by the scientific community.

How many academics do we have on the forum?

Answer: None.

sure I did.

1. I read for instance he was a pacifist... and made sure he stayed that way. Hardly an example for a working wheel.
So I was just wondering what made you bring him up...

2. Whirls inside whirls: As far as I know that's conservation of momentum.

3. How does that relate to Finsrud? (momentum?)

4. You link to a multi-variance diagram... (also momentum?)

I think the info is a bit fragmented compared to the statement : "I've discovered the principle on which gravity mills work - but you're never going to believe me."
Perhaps I can try to connect some dots, but would possibly result in nonsense.

-fwiw, your figure-eight you showed below your diagram reminds me of an interesting curve which keeps popping up in my 3d fractal investigation (another grail I try to find).

(ralph: I did put that one on my todo list)

Oh my. You are so wrong. I've had thoughts about this matter for some time and haven't said a word, yet Grim, my grasshopper, I feel a need to speak my peace.

How is it possible for an effect to pay its freight and the very foundation that caused it to be. What a wonderful one that would be, yet it's impossible.

It would be like sitting and standing at the same time.

Do with it what you will.

Lordy, lordy, Walter C Jnr. ... ;-)

Grimer didn't write bob = 20 inches.

How about length to centre of spherical bob = 20 inches

Diameter of bob = 2 inches

If you did I can't understand why you wrote:
Who's Lewis Fry Richardson?
If you'd read your link then you would know who he was - or was your question intended as a put down - in other words as a pacifist he's a person of no account.

Not very PC, eh! ;-)

An appropriate symbol for infinite energy.

Perhaps I'm starting this new year a bit fuzzy :-)
Perhaps I should say he sounds to be one of the better examples for mankind; no put-downs intended here.
Perhaps it is still not politically correct, as pacifistic traits are often contrary to political/military-agenda's -yet another trait of mankind.
So I can read all about him, but still don't know what his picture is doing there, and how it relates to your theory of gravitymills.

thus: Who's Lewis Fry Richardson?... in relation to you, or your theory, or...

Regarding the Latin infinity symbol or the "Lazy Eight" you can learn more about it and other symbols @ http://www.ancient-symbols.com/symbols- ... inity.html

"Big whirls have little whirls that feed on their velocity,

and little whirls have lesser whirls and so on to viscosity."
This hits home; It highly relates to my hypothesis of my present design and build. whirls or center of vortex can be interpreted as a hole. In jest, a hole is a negative value of the positive value or molecular matter surrounding said area or hole. Not unlike the negative and positive posts of a battery.

Gravity dictates that that fluids (Newtonian) seek to equalize this gradient and will fill the hole at a rate determined by its viscosity.

As we are sidetracking off-topic anyway, perhaps I could showcase my side-project a bit: finding a 3D-equivalent for the mandelbrot (Z^2+c) - considered mathematically impossible.
Because this mandelbrot basically is a collection of Julia's I first try to get good 3D-Julia's - I think the currently known ones look like chewed up bubblegum.
This link shows my currently best -but still flawed- effort // Righttop=2d-mandelbrot, Rightbottom=2D-julia, Center=attempt of 3D-julia -- don't mind the outdated shader and color usage.

That's very cool, me. What is a 3d equivalent mandelbrot (z2+c) , and why is It
considered impossible?

As my 11th year anniversary of belonging to this forum approaches, I cannot recall a thread getting so far off-topic as this one!

what pray tell does Mondelbrot (z@+C) have in connection to "Fcdriver having a working wheel?

If Frank does have a working machine, why are we not hearing more about it? Is it a farce or just not considered newsworthy?
