I'm certain we're not done, I'm part way through another attempt that doesn't use K'nex for arms (they were too thick).
"What must the neighbors think?"? You can't even tell from the picture if it's 5 feet wide or 60. But many neighbors have pools, it's hot here.

If I had a pool like that it would need to be empty five months each year, else it would freeze and crack and the water would leak into the ground. And I'd end up with drowned deer unless I put up an eight foot fence.

- or -

I could have a Bessler wheel driving a heater keeping it warm and toasty all winter long and chain a guard dog near the pool.

LOL. We get drowned rabbits, mice, and bugs, and even the occational frog (though obviously they don't drown). They never see the pool coming, it is so unexpected, and possibly unheard of, to those critters.

If you post your pool, you should have a wheel in it, or else it is just a waste of Scott's space.

i'll get right on it, and i'm 100% sure the wheel will turn, and accerlerate!!! do you think it will matter if there's a racecar attached to it ? if i can crop the picture so the car isn't shown! it will give off one heck of a roostertail!!!!!

Guys no more joking around i have a new and improved virsion on how the wheel should operate/funtion. I've asked Scott to do a (cad) recreation of our newest design. refering to our design I will credit Jonathan for his help and let me bounce my ideas off of him. So, be patient, quoting Jonathan (a change is coming). Gordy

I didn't mean what do the neighbours think of your pool, I meant what must the nosey neighbours think of your pool with an overbalanced KNEX gravity wheel thingy in it. Maybe I'm stereotyping my nosey neighbours and applying them to you.............maybe you have no neighbours. Anyway I'm sorry for starting all this crap.

Lets get back to business here, there's a change coming.............apparently.

I see that Scott hasn't gotten around to posting the idea, Gordon sent it to me too, so I'll do it. I don't understand it, so it's up to Gordon to explain.

Here is Gordon's explaination, clipped from an email:
" the 7 oclock wheel is on a bell crank via a spring on a reverse bell crank so theoretically what ever pressure is needed at the bottom can be reversed leveraged via the bell cranks to exhert the energy that is being used at the 8 (just don't lose the energy) to the 2 oclock position store it instantaneously as pressure against the throw, inside of the wheel. so the bottom wheel rides on the outside and the upper spring rides on the inside. each roller tip has to have the ability to sneakdeep enough into the next arm that the rotation will have a smooth transistion between arm to arm (where the 8 oclock wheel rides, smooth) now if you do the geometry it shouldn't be a dirrect drop in because it needs to roll out of it. now the crevice you have being beveled towards the inner side becomes a bump for the next rotating arm, the spring pressure thatt's holding the bottom arm in ends up being the same spring pressure that makes the upper wheel launch the arm when it comes to the crevice bump by it at approximately the 2 oclock position. the inside of the circle sees a spring loaded bump at 2 oclock and the 8 oclock spring is the pinch and essentially a torque governor."
