re: Tips for using the new board
Hi Scott, can you tell me why my sig is not showing on my posts. I went into "profile" and entered my new sig, checked all the appropriate buttons and then expected the sig to show up on all my posts. Well it did but only on the very first post , thereafter it didn't show up again.
I checked "profile" and the sig is still there , it's just not showing up again after that first post.
It's not a big deal and I can live without a sig but I was just curious as to what I might be doing wrong.
Thanks
Graham

Graham, your sig is only on your first post on each page.
Look, I have a sig.

re: Tips for using the new board
Look now, sig gone - also no avatar or rep bar and info in subsequent posts.
re: Tips for using the new board
Thanks for explaining it guys, I'm starting to like people a little bit more now, but not as much as I love humanity :-)

As a followup I wonder why Scott is so stingy with our sigs, really , all that work coming up with something very profound and he only lets you use it once. :-(

re: Tips for using the new board
I think Scott originaly was trying cut down on content to help guys like me using dialup connections. But what really slows things down is the 25 posts per page. Scott once mentioned that was so you could read the whole post at once. Stefan at overunity.com finally settled on 10 posts per page. Threads with lots of pictures really kill time. Sometimes they take a couple minutes to load. My 26kb speed is what I get for living out in the country.

Stick with it Scott. Maybe you can clean it up some more :) I'm in the same boat as jim_mitch & all that paraphernalia really slows things to a crawl. Especially as you try to read the last entries & the page keeps resizing & disappearing up the screen. Interestingly this didn't happen on the old IE4.0 & it went straight to last unread post & anchored there so you could read it without your eyes rolling into the back of your head :)
Re: re: Tips for using the new board
I agree Jim, but I think 10 posts per page is too few. As a compromise for now I have reduced it to 20 posts per page.jim_mich wrote:But what really slows things down is the 25 posts per page. Scott,
It seems that the "quote" button is not appearing on the last item of any displayed page...???

re: Tips for using the new board
Indeed. I got tired of some members abusing the quote feature by always quoting the last post in full. Why would you need to quote the last post anyway? The quote feature is for tying together disparate posts. Otherwise, you are implicitly responding to the last post.
Note you can always manually quote anything you like by using bbcode markup.

P.S. I only intended to remove the quote button on the last post, not the last post on each page. That is a bug. I will look into it tonight.
P.P.S. OK, it's working now.
