Tips for using the new forum

re: Tips for using the new board
Well the post number per page reshuffle has made the first post on this page total nonsense. lol
re: Tips for using the new board
Hi Scott,
Do you think you could include a "delete marked" box besides the lineup of "new posts since last login" ? That way I don't have to read some threads & they won't appear on my unread list. Thanks.

re: Tips for using the new board
Hi Fletcher, thanks for the suggestion. If adding such a feature were straightforward, I would do it right away. Unfortunately though, it would be pretty difficult based on the way "view posts since last login" is currently implemented (it's basically the same as going through the search page).
For now, you'll have to just skip the topics you don't want to read, then click "mark all forums read" on the index page when you're done reading.
I will add it to the list, though!

re: Tips for using the new board
Just a note to let everyone know that I finally found time to put together a FAQ for the reputation system, available here: http://www.besslerwheel.com/forum/faq.php#36
There are currently 40 members who have used the reputation system. The current point spread between all members is 964 - 1085. The member with the highest rating has 13 positive votes. The member with the lowest rating has 13 negative votes, well shy of the 20 required for banishment (50% of 40).

re: Tips for using the new board
I may have missed it, but does anyone else have a problem using the "view all" link in the threads?
For me it just keeps refreshing endlessly if there are more than 3 pages in a thread. It works ok for <= 3 however.

re: Tips for using the new board
Is there a way...
...or Scott, can you provide one...
To make thread/page opens of topic pages take you to latest additions in a thread?
The current login screen gives a count of posts since last login. It would be nice if there were some mechanism to fetch/position to the oldest new post in a thread/topic, presumably relative to the login stamp used for this count.
I have found myself missing some posts occasionally when a thread/topic is moving swiftly, and I fail to spot the correct starting point on a page (or it may have even been on the previous page, and thus I had to change pages to obtain correct sequencing.)
Additionally, it might be nice if a refresh of the login page where that count is shown could somehow be made to reflect posts after the previous fetch of the page... Hence when sitting watching who's logged in, one coul d just sit in one place to at least see if anything new has been posted when wondering/hoping if a quick reply from someone might becoming.
It would be even better if this could be accomplished on that search page that the new posts count link takes you to...

To see the oldest of a set of new posts in a given thread, click the new post icon next to the thread title. The new post icon is the yellow paper with a blue, rightward-pointing arrow.
As far as I know, the post count and last poster entries does refresh when you refresh the page.

Click on the (actual) Number of posts since last log-on. Right left of page beneath your name. Beside it are number of Private Messages to view etc. If you leave the board for some reason when you come back click on the new number & old ones you didn't get around to reviewing will appaer in the line up as well.

Thanks for chiming in here Jonathan and Fletcher. Those are both good answers to amateur's question.

re: Tips for using the new board
This may have been covered in the past, but if so I can not find it.
When I use the "Remember me" option to log in, I get a list of forum member names that I have written PM's to. My name is there in two diffrent forms.
How does one eradicate these unwanted names on the log in box?
Thank you,
Ralph

Ralph...
Have you considered just logging in and not logging out again?

On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ

Hi Ralph, the answer depends entirely on which browser you're using. If you're using MSIE, here's how:

Scott,
Thank you for the above link. It works and is easy to follow the instructions.
While I am on this appropriate thread, I knew that Darrell had been banned some time back.
Personally I see no reason to change the rep system. To add another category such as "banned" its like kicking a dead horse. I would rather let sleeping dogs lay and they are soon forgotten. Ban them yes, but after banning they should simply be removed from the system.
One can rebuild there respect in time and I do not think its right not to give them the privilege of attempting to do so.
