Website upgrade

Post by scott »

Hi all, just wanted to warn everyone I have started the process of moving the website to a new hosting provider, where hopefully the connection will be faster and more reliable than my poor old DSL.

It will be a large effort to migrate everything over to the new server, during which time the site will be down for a while, possibly a few days depending on the complications that arise.

Wish me luck!

Thanks,
Scott

P.S. Your donations have made this possible. Please keep them coming!

There seems to be a bug.

None of the newer posts after the upgrade are showing.
They did at first, but not now.

I know, sorry. This is exactly what I feared and why I put off doing this for so long. I corresponded with the hosting service most of yesterday and they apologize but don't know why the database was reverted. Unfortunately they are not going to be able to restore the lost posts. If you posted on Monday or Tuesday, please post again. Luckily it was only about a dozen posts I think.

My sincere apologies. Hopefully it won't happen again.

Also, there is a problem with connecting to my mail server. This causes errors if you post in a topic that is being watched, like this one, because the system tries to send an email notification and fails. The post however, works fine, even though the email errors make it look like it failed.

This will also happen with PMs until I can resolve the issue.

Sorry again and thanks for your patience.

Thanks Graham. Looks like I found a workaround for the email problem for now.

Please report other errors you see in this thread.

Thanks,
Scott

So far so good Scott.

A donation is well deserved here guys !!

Can we trust the new hosting service not to "screw up" and lose the money ???

Thanks Graham. No, don't worry, donations go exclusively through PayPal as always. No change there.

Hey Scott, does Pay Pal send an acknowledgement email to the person donating?

I made a donation but got a message asking me to enter an amount.
I HAD done that, but then re entered the amount and submitted again and got back to the original sign on screen.

I'll check my credit card statment today and tomorrow but I have a feeling that the transaction did not go through.
