osmotic power

Post by coylo »

I seen this on the BBC series 'Coast', this particular program explored the Norwegian shore-line, Lillesand to Svalbard. Nothing new in the process, but the Norwegians are really looking into developing this- as a viable, practical energy source....
Alice explores a potential new form of renewable energy currently in development – osmotic power. She demonstrates how the pressure caused by osmosis can be harnessed to make electricity using just salt and fresh water separated by a thin semi-permeable membrane. Like Norway, the UK benefits from a long coastline with many estuaries where the powerful mix of sea and fresh water could provide the answer to our future energy needs.
