An artist can illustrate the charm of wavering gravity in his manner...as a form of "suggestive " science...

It seems that we can play so many gravity "games" ( Why not a gravity self-powered device? )...but with the exactitude of an old mechanical clock.

Gravity fall can be depicted ( "designed" ) as incoming power ( "waves" ) , also...in a simple variable/oscillatory leverage arrangement , also.

But...we can play this kind/shape of motion ( gravity unbalance ) , directly as a gravity pendular composition ( leverage ).

Understanding the harmonic motion is important, the only time when a force towards rotation is accelerating is from 12 to 3, from 3 to 6 the force towards rotation is decelerating. Indexing the force, or change the harmonic motion from 2 to 5 the greatest movement of force to become the acceleration of 12 to 3 is key! The final force has to be accelerating the rotation, of the wheel! Trying to use the force towards rotation from a dropping weight from 3 o'clock on is useless, because the force is decreasing. A steady constant force towards rotation that is accelerating the wheel only! The moment the force slows it's useless!

To say you can't use the force from 3to 6 is not what I'm saying, but adjustments have to be made so that the force is accelerating the wheel! Not decelerating the wheel!

An artist responds in his particular way to the same interrogation face to reality that a scientist does...sometimes coincidentally.

Hi alex

I read all of your posts.
Nice to see a lateral view of the issue.

Good way to see the bigger picture and not get focused on one small technical point.

Remind me - Did Ralph Lortie not do a physical build of this device?

I viewed the first link 'La machine de Sellier'.

If you let your imagination go then I see an improvement to the design IHMO.

1. Have three arms connecting to the same crank handle.

3. The masses are connected to the arms with a small connector rod and joints that are supported by springs.

Method

After push starting the device with a slow increase in movement.
An arm would drop and the mass will overshoot at the bottom.
An arm near the top will overshoot the mass at the top.

The task is to fix the crank handle rotation and adjust the mass position from it's joint to get a good resonance affect.
