"The U.S. would now need to use less than 3% of its farmland to get 95% of its electricity demand satisfied by wind power"...
that sounds good...
I think a few alterations and evolution of the wind mill will make wind energy the new clean energy...

re: Wind Power: $0.01/kwh
interesting post man
ill beleive it when i see it, they already have a big million dollar wind project set forth down in south australia sponsored by the government
as every one already knows i have the task of assimulating the down wind turbine into a fiji resort next year. i already mailed the member of parliment here about it (superiour wind design),
http://v3.espacenet.com/textdoc?DB=EPOD ... 247358&F=0
which would be good for their climate as well (humid air etc)
and he said they have only choosen their designs cause they are commercially available on the market, and 'trusted' even though i explained fully how the design of the wind turbine available to him from the down wind design, was more efficent!!
the wind potencial is very vast in england too, which is where projects of wind power should consentrate, ofcause usa the biggest pollution machine in the world needs technology like this to be sold cheaper, so the others disapear.
the above design has opened my mnd up to the potencial of wind power.
check it out
who do i make the check out to :D

It has some good points, although there are some solutions to some of these problems...
First of all, the issue with mortality of local wildlife can be reduced if the blades are made more visible... they are always white? I admit a non-solid color would be disorienting...
There was a reference to exposed lines or such nonsense... ?
the "foot print" thing was in my opinion an oversight... no one says you can't (that I know of) or shouldnt build something where a wind farm is...
(I dont know what the "catastrophic accident" record is for prop failure on windmills?...)
Most Wind-Farms are fairly far up and of course something could be built here... I see storage... who says you can't build a mall underneath... or vice'versa build a windmill or two into a mall-like structure?
parking lots take up space too... stick a windmill on each corner...?

I'm still trying to figure out how the birds catch fire after they've been hit....
"White" blades - Even if you used multi-colored blades, if you spin them fast enough (with a light source on them) they still appear white.
These would be far more efficient. And safer.

I know, I can imagine it... bird gets hit....Man screams "Oh My God!"MrTim wrote:I'm still trying to figure out how the birds catch fire after they've been hit....
flaming ball of fire falls to the ground...
ROFL... :)
As for the wind turbine link you posted...
looks like an elongated and twisted PicoTurbine Windmill...?
the link you provided is not a picoturbine... but I believe the picoturbine could be integrated into its design... thus adding even more power around the blades opposed to the winds direction...
I like that design... I have seen it before but never thought about the picoturbine at the same time...
cool...
...
Here is another idea...

re: Wind Power: $0.01/kwh
some one else spoke to me about a secret process for wind turbines that folds up when there is a hurricane, never thought of that did we?
the down wind tower technology looks safer to wild life. did you all read it?
here is another interesting link

free download excellent book (s)
below wind book is one on Tesla coils and alternate energy

re: Wind Power: $0.01/kwh
speaking of thermo extractions
what about using the sun as this in an idea, having mirrors on the bottom of the dessert, and a tower, with a turbine up top, the heat gets concntrated and pointed towards the tower and the hot air turns the turbine?
as a back up if there is no wind?

Epi...
I have heard a "idea" like that before, but don't have the link...
It was a giant cone-like structure tapering to a point...
the outer surface was black and the heat generated cause the air inside to rise... thus, generating energy by the inlets fans at the bottom and a outlet generator at the top...
It would work... it would just be a hollow shell...
takes up alot of space though...
