Is it really our fault?
No doubt CO2 has played a role, but this cannot be ignored:
The Sun is More Active Now than Over the Last 8000 Years
Toward the end it says:
"The researchers around Sami K. Solanki stress the fact that solar activity has remained on a roughly constant (high) level since about 1980 - apart from the variations due to the 11-year cycle - while the global temperature has experienced a strong further increase during that time."
And I can't believe it says that (since it seems to be a 'don't jump to conclusions regarding global warming' warning) because IINM, that is exactly what you'd expect if the sun was playing a notable role (the rate of change of temperature should be roughly proportional to the difference between the intensity at a given time and the average intensity of sunlight, which means that a constant, but high, intensity should result in a constant increase in temperature, and then a leveling off as equilibrium is reached).

re: Is it really our fault?
I thought this thread was going to be:
Is it really our fault....................that Bush got another four years?
...and the answer would of been..............................................yes!
Oh, and C02 has played a role, but we humans can't take all the blame.

How's it our fault they rigged the electronic voting machines?
....because we did nothing to stop them I guess?
It's interesting how the mainstream media wont touch this, but as a friend of mine pointed out - in a turkey shoot you dont put your head above the parapet and shout GOBBLE GOBBLE GOBBLE!

re: Is it really our fault?
what is our fault is the earth would be better poised to deal with such activity naturally, if there wasnt a hole in the ozone layer. and CO2
come on jonathen your smarter than this.

It seems we agree Epi, so you're confused?
Also (Trev), I heard on the news today that lawyers have been scouring the swing states for voter fraud since before the voting even took place (I thought they stopped when Kerry conceded), and they have yet to mention anything objectionable. So the media is reporting on it, and their verdict is 'looks good' (this will of course not stop the internet conspiracy theorists, at least one of whom no doubt thinks Elvis won). You may not have heard it in Ireland, but the media jumped all over a guy in Ohio who was promised cocaine (from some woman involved with voting) if he made some fake voter registration forms or something. He was found out because of the names he gave these fake people: Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy, etc...but then again what do you expect from a crackhead. The UN also gave the election their seal of approval (for transparency among other things IIRC), but how much that means is debatable.

I thought I might post this, similar to the original URL (even cites it indirectly), but this is newer.

re: Is it really our fault?
I recall the posts and article on solar dimming. Perhaps the pollution we are putting in the air is keeping the earth from warming as much as it would have if everything was pristine. It is just hard to get a handle on what is actually happening with all these dynamic systems interacting and not much historical history to compare with.

Yes, It seems the more we know the less we know...
There seems to be a study every month or so for either side of the issue...
There is obviously a calculable human influence and that is something we can change...

re: Is it really our fault?
Yes, I kind of think it is our fault. I am convinced that all the carbon emissions coming out of those SUV's that are currently so popular is what is going to lead to a "run away" greenhouse effect unless we all decide to get serious about doing something about it.
Hopefully, in the next few years we will have a free energy motor powerful enough to power a personal automobile. Even when that happens, it will still take decades for the atmosphere to cleanse itself of the various gases we've polluted it with.

On 7/6/06, I found, in any overbalanced gravity wheel with rotation rate, ω, axle to CG distance d, and CG dip angle φ, the average vertical velocity of its drive weights is downward and given by:
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ
Vaver = -2(√2)πdωcosφ
re: Is it really our fault?
I just got the September issue of Discover (Vol. 26, No. 9), and it had a transcribed interview on pages 15, 16. Here's two quotes, in case you guys want to check it out.
There are four more related Q&A's that I thought were interesting, but obviously I can't just quote half the piece.Meteorologist William Gray may be the world's most famous hurricane expert.
...
You don't believe gloal warming is causing climate change?
G: No. If it is, it is causing such a small part that it is negligible. I'm not disputing that there has been global warming. There was a lot of global warming in the 1930s and '40s, and then there was a slight global cooling from the middle '40s to the early '70s. And there has been warming since the middle '70s, especially in the last 10 years. But this is natural, due to ocean circulation changes and other factors. It is not human induced.

Let's face it....we don't know for sure. And any scientist who comes up with the notion that they "know for sure" will get chopped of my list of having any credibility. They will, obviously...be on an EGO trip.
Oh, and the special interest groups who scream "the sky is falling"...are not even scientific much less scientists....they just like to scream, kind of like little children when they want attention. I really tire of all the lies from all sides....So, let's face it...we just don't know for sure!
Steve
P.S. Between Bush and Kerry...this was a no brainer for the most part.

Marchello...
Oddly enough, the problem of farting is supposed to be a major contributor to "green house" gases! A fart is basically methane gas. But, I think that I read that the majority of methane added to our overburdened atmosphere comes from cows!
Yes, the atmospheric scientists refer to it as "bovine flatulence". There is a product sold in the USA called "Beano" which contains an enzyme that is supposed to prevent farting. Perhaps a big part of the solution to global warming would be to make sure all livestock (as well as humans) take a daily supplement of Beano to suppress their flatulence!

Is the Sun Heating Up?
Astrophysicists are scratching their heads about what's happening on the sun and in our solar system. Why has this so-called "Solar Minimum" been so active? It should be quiet now with very few sunspots because this is supposed to be the low point of the Sun's 11-year-sunspot cycle. But this week, there was a sunspot called 822 that's 87,000 miles across - the size of the planet Jupiter!

re: Is it really our fault?
I just knew this was headed toward bovine flatulence; it had it written all over it. It could be that too many cows are eating and not enough are ending up on the bbq pit.
I little sidebar off the flatulence topic; we can finally know that Elvis is dead. He voted for Kerry 20 times in 6 different states. I am curious when Ireland became the 52nd state. The state of the dead is the 51st. There are so many benefits to being dead. No taxes and you can vote as many times as you like.
