Besslers' Windmill

Post by agor95 »

Imagine Besslers' Windmill

Rotating on a vertical axis and rotating with very little wind.

Also when there is a small input of wind the mill runs
with an efficiency far greater than a normal windmill.

In this imaginary thread the years of Besslers' work
would be included in a Bessler wheel like device hidden
under the base grindstone.

This is a horizontal device and not using all the principles
he used in the vertical device.

It is certainly possible to create a rotating wheel that is maybe 5degrees off the horizontal, but optimum torque has to surely come from the standard vertical orientation if gravity is the source of power ifcthe intended use is to turn a high friction grind stone ?

The concept is Bessler was creating a windmill that rotates around a vertical axle.

The wind would supply the main power to deal with friction etc.

normally it is the top grind stone that rotates.

However with this concept Bessler would direct the power to the lower grind stone. The horizontal Bessler device would be attached to an under that stone.

Now observers would see an unconventional windmill and would copy it.
However the additional component would be hidden.

All this is speculation however the M. Turbine I which rotates in one direction as the windmill operates.

The only small issue is to prove this to myself and other members.

The idea of contra-rotating grind-stones is not a new one, for it was away for millers to increasegrain through put.

Also, The concentric split-shaft bevel-gear arrangement to create this opposing rotation, is as old as the hills also.

Moreover, imho a gravity wheel may revolve beautifully under its own power, but there will be minimal surplus torque, even with the larger diameter models.

He look good, but will hit the canvas with one punch !

In any event , as the definition of 'work' as moved away from tasks to be accomplished in a farm, it's. Otcan efficebt use of energy.

I believe we are in agreement.

The hidden horizontal device supplements the main power not replace it and
as it is flat there is no gravity component.

Normally the top grind stone rotates over a stantionary base stone.

As I said, the idea of contra-rotating discs is a good one as the summation of opposing rotational forces will equal zero.

Much the same as vibration cancelling tech ;-)

Everything is equal and opposite.

A cage gear aka known as "lantern gear" in Bessler's day:
