.....if we take into consideration : gravity free fall , rotational inertia and a single self-switching of the gravity unbalance ( torque difference on the same side of the fulcrum...) in the top ( or bottom ) position...or an "inertia assisted "gravity free fall.
As a matter of fact...Why not a " minimum minimorum " design !?

All this versions are failing for one simple reason,
the reaction is always against the earth directly.

What you need is a moving ground !!

.....if you simplify the well known "swinging sticks game"(erratic swinging/pendular motion ).
So , you can :
-buy one
- remove (take away , extract) the electric circuit(and battery...) , as :

-place a magnet in every stick ( intended to repel one another...)
-add a "knee joint"(180 * limiting joint) for the small stick
Now you have the possibility to play a "new game " (regular rotating inverted pendulum ) : "self" rotation due to a continuous gravity unbalance on the same side of the fulcrum and rotational inertia !?
Spare parts:fulcrum/support , two sticks,two joints,two magnets...if you intend to build and test it...
Simply , we replace a battery assisted motion ( swinging ) with a moment of inertia assisted motion ( continuous rotation...or "self" rotation due to gravity fall and inertia ).
Inertia helps every turn ( or half turn...) , to tumble ( in the top or bottom point ) the torque difference ( due to gravity unbalance ) on the same side of the fulcrum...resulting a continuous pulsatory rotation ).

I agree.....it would be possible to learn a great deal from this endeavor.. With the great amount of items that can controlled through a radio frequency you can do amazing processes. The battery can just be attached to the wheel and a radio control console that controls a small hobby train can be used to control dozens of activities. No wires required .... I want to hear more
