A question for Scott.

Post by VANDUGEGS »

Scott,

If you would like me to stop posting on your Discussion Board, Just say, Goodbye Darrell and I will never post again.
I will continue to see what is happening on this Board and protect my name, but I will never post again.
To all members, say goodbye or forever hold your piece.

Scott

I would like to apologize for my quick and immature posting, that you see above. This will not happen again.

Some people may wonder about the word Goodbye. It has been a bad habit of mine for many years, for when I say goodbye, it's just a polite way of saying, I will have nothing more to do with you, in any way, or form.

Your forum remains as imformative as always, especilly to one with both, vision and an open mind.

Their have been two pictures posted in the past of machines that would work, with the correct adjustments in weight, measurement and ratio.
For those that are wondering, no, they are not in my postings.

Thanks again for your time.

Sorry Pete, you lost out bigtime but others lost too.

Only just now received this from his majesty, who is a bit slow on the uptake me thinks :P

Bill, March 24th/05

After some thought, I have decided it is time that you now delete any and all information, relating to my machine, as per our non-discloser agreement.
I don't foresee any dealings with you in any way.

Goodbye Bill!

The way I see it Darrell, it is not up to me to determine when you should stop posting. It is up to you.

What I have set out to do here is create a marketplace of ideas about the Bessler mystery and free energy in general.

But a thriving marketplace is always based upon an underlying system of trust and respect, and an individual's success or failure in any marketplace is always tied to his or her reputation. That's why Ebay, Amazon, and so many others have all had to address the issue of reputation at some point or another. Now it is besslerwheel.com's turn.

My job, as I see it, is to implement a fair and effective reputation system to make sure that everyones' reputations are accurately reflected in all of their dealings in the marketplace.

On a related note, I am going to change the lowest reputation rating from "Disregarded and disrespected" to "This member should be banned." I have also decided to assign this reputation to whomever at least 50% of members give a negative ranking. Whenever a member drops to this lowest threshold and stays there for one month, he or she will be automatically banned.

Bravo Scott!

However (oh no), I might point out that about 1/3 of all registered members have made zero total posts and well over 1/2 of all registered members have only made 5 posts or less each.

The actual participation rate here is obviously far less than the total current member count of 197. A typical poll will draw only about 20-25 total votes from a membership of nearly 200 = 12% participation rate, at best. I'm sure you see what I'm getting at in relation to the required 50% of membership to achieve a banning.

Hi Bill, yes I see your point and it's a good one. For the reputation system to matter at all, it must have real consequences.

Here's what we'll do: if a member receives a negative rating from 50% of all the members *who have a rated someone*, for one month, then that member will be automatically banned.

To put this into context, so far there are 23 members who've given a rating to another member. Of those 23, only 7 have given a negative rating to one particular member. So that particular member is just 5 votes away from a 50% negative rating.

I'm trying to make the system as "self-regulating" as possible, and this solution seems like the right way to go.

In that same vein, I'm working on packaging and producing this reputation system as an open source phpbb modification, which I think might be quite useful to a lot of phpbb administrators out there.

As I envision it now there will be an administrator control panel where you can set all the various parameters, and even customize the "Dear John" email that is sent along when a user is automatically banned by the system.

To my mind this approach really does remove almost all subjectivity. Everyone knows the rules up front, and everyone knows that the rules will be applied in a fair and consistent manner. It's kind of like life. That way, administrators like me can just sit back and relax! This is *supposed* to be a fun hobby, after all. ;-)

-Scott

P.S. Now that there's been a spread in the reputation ratings (points all started at 1000, now range from about 990 to 1050), I will start adjusting the category limits to provide a little more granularity in the distribution.

P.P.S. Here is the current ranking by points. The system is completely transparent, and this info will be available on the main statistics page anyway when I'm finished with the mod. So here's a snapshot in case you're curious in the meantime:
