Private Messaging

Hi scott,

In private messaging I can only see the last message sent or received. Is there a way that one can scroll through an entire thread of conversation with another user? Can a new private messaging plugin be installed? Thanks in advance.

I noticed people / bots create accounts put do not interact.

They do not post. However the question is do they post private messages?

Also do private messages increase the post count?

If there is private message activity then this site is being used as a messaging system for other purposes.

I would have thought people create an account simply to have access to threads which are limited to members only.

Not everybody is willing to publicly share their stupid thoughts, crazy ideas or outlandish claims, so private messages allow an interaction between members who do have all of these, but prefer to keep them to a limited number of members, or a specific individual.

Any private messaging system can be used for other purposes, this does not mean that it necessarily is, or that the quantity of messages unrelated to the site is of any importance.

I wouldn't have thought a few private messages between members, discussing how many potatoes they cultivated this year, from their vegetable patch, are of a serious concern to the site or any threat to national security. Even if they are technically private messages, being used for other purposes.

I created the 'Bessler Starship' Forum in Feb 21.

There were scripts creating multi-accounts being setup.

Naturally I deleted them as soon as I see these computer created accounts.

Whoever I could imaging these being used for messaging purposes as I described.

Of cause we would normally expect the private messaging to be 1. setup by people and 2. Be used by authenticated people.

P.s. We are growing potatoes for the second year. But we have more bugs than last years.

Note. 'Bessler Starship' Forum was knocked off-line in April.

It might be helpful to know the extent of control admin has over files on a network. They can read them.

• IOW, there is nothing private about private messages.
  Private message is a misnomer.

They know what these scallywags are up to.
