Just give it away?
All those who think a working idea should be given away free, please step forward.

OK, since this is how you think then I must assume you also think your other valuable property should be given away?
Please send me your address and I will stop by and pick up titles to your car, house and any other real estate you own. Have on hand any bank account books, brokerage account numbers, and any whole life insurance policy numbers. Please have your household goods, packed in boxes ready for pickup. I'll have an appliance cart available to move the larger items. I expect you will have on hand any other valuable property that I've not mentioned.
.......
My point here is that intellectual property is just as much PROPERTY as personal property, real estate property or financial property. Why do you expect others to give away intellectual property when you don't give away your own valuable properties?
I think the greedy ones are those that expect other people to give them things for free.
Just my humble opinion,

re: Just give it away?
No doubt you started this thread as a response to me giving away my ideas. Let's discuss it shall we.
Maybe you're right jim_mitch, people don't give away their property, intellectual or not, but the discovery of free energy is not just an ordinary idea or intellectual property.
Imagine you discovered the "national treasure" (recent movie title very enjoyable), would you be able to disclose it to everybody and profit from it at the same time?
People would kill, its too great a discovery. Too much is at stake.
Look around you, the world has changed since you grew up. Now our infrastructure is dependent on oil. If oil stoped flowing tomorrow it would be chaos in the cities. Back to agrarian society, horse and buggy!
The modern system we live in seems set up to oppress.
Everybody wants to hook you and get you in debt, or to pay monthly fees. They want an income stream. You pay them to live in society. When you can't produce, out you go. That's why I belive in self sufficiency and living in the country side. I belive hard times are coming upon this earth as we near the end.
People at top make money while people on the bottom serve. It has always been this way. Its the story of our human race. But what will happen if all of a sudden you discover 'free energy' would you be able to make money and change the world?
Would you put out of business millions of people?
The discovery of free energy would be such a shocker to the way of life its unbelievable.
The best thing you can do is give it away fast and shock the world quickly, just like when getting a shot at the clinic, a slow insertion of the needle would be painful!!

re: Just give it away?
another thought,
can you patent GRAVITY?
what if Newton tried to patent gravity? How absurd that would be.
Everybody would be trampling on his patent.
also, if the "bad guys" discover you have a secret that can ruin them and their money, they would try to put an end to it fast and try to CONTAIN the 'crisis'. They don't want it to spread. So if you don't share quickly they will get you. When you walk into that patent office, your telling them: " hi, I have an invention I would like to patent, that would ruin the current system of wealth and most likely you yourselves would loose all your money, can you please endorse it for me and protect my invention" Do you see how absurd that is? Wake up people and start thinking for yourselves!!
If I were in their shoes that's what I would do too, but I don't own any oil stocks. I would kill anybody that was going to rub me of my million of dollars and try to upset my cozy nest at the top of the food chain.
I guess I'm using the fear argument, of course we belive we have laws in this country to protect us from crime, etc. But are you telling me there is no corruption in this country? Do you think the president and congress will continue to abide by the rules if they lost their fortune over night? He would say, screw politics and international crisis, I got to ensure my wealth after retirement. Which brings up a good point, the best politicians are the wealthy ones, cause once they have their situation assured, then they want respect from the people they represent so they at least try honestly to help out and do something good for legacy.

I'm with Jim too, but I'd have fun along the way to disclosure.

re: Just give it away?
Please do not view me as encouraging you to part with your idea before you're ready.
I believe I understand your point - however, philosophically...
I do wish to point out what I perceive as a significant difference between the properties you've requested us to have ready, and "intellectual" property.
The properties you've described are of "limited" quantity, and once given, or loaned, cannot be directly used again, unless once again obtained.
"Intellectual" property however, is actually increased in quantity (although possibly decreased in perceived "worth") when it is given/shared and received/applied.

re: Just give it away?
When a patent is granted it is a VERY LIMITED quantity. It must be something new and unovious. In other words something unique. Something the world has not seen before.amateur wrote:The properties you've described are of "limited" quantity,
One reason the US and Great Britain grew to become economicaly strong was due to the patent system. This gave inventors an advantage and an incentive to develope new ideas. Without this incentive very few new invention would be brought ot market. Unless an invention is marketed it has no value.
One sure fire way to kill a PM wheel idea is to give it away. No one will take the startup risk involved with a new product without some type of assurance that enough profit can be made to pay back the startup costs.
re: Just give it away?
I think you missed the philosophical point...
but, regarding the "never seen before", this idea has been seen before, we think - some 300 years ago.
As for unobvious, well that still seems to hold true.
And, in a manner of speaking, you are planning on giving/sharing it via patent disclosure. I pray you are not thwarted in that effort. (And I hope that your idea works.)
There is one reason that I suspect the world will actually move to a water/hydrogen based economy, energy-wise, and so doubt that gravity wheels will be of significance, but there may still be the possibility of utilizing gravity to some advantage in spite of that, assuming one knows how.

I don' t like the hydrogen concept either, its cleaner yes, no dependance on foreign oil excellent, but there will still be supply stations and infrastructure etc. I like the concept of electric cars, and high capacity batteries. Nanomaterials is the key. Check out the stock symbol ALTI, they announced amazing results a while back, fast charging of batteries and high capacity. To abide by SEC rules, I do own ALTI stock :)

re: Just give it away?
The whole concept of patents is to encourage inventors to bring their ideas to the world, for this they are expected to profit for the first 20 years.
The world then profits forever.
Its a great system, don't knock it.

I'd give them away.
I think it says alot about your motivation...
I imagine its like finding the holy grail and using it for profit...
there just seems something so wrong... doing that...

This is really apples and oranges, Jim. What about the money and time someone gives to charity? These things also have value. Please send me your address and I will stop by and pick up titles to your car, house and any other real estate you own.
I would never tell someone else they should give something away, that is just what I believe when it comes to this subject. You'd better believe I don't think that way about everything! :-)

re: Just give it away?
Ed,
Hey, I have no qualms about what other people do with their properties. Apples and oranges? Say someone inherits a ten million dollar mansion (rich uncle?). Are they obligated to give it away because it has great value?
Oxygon,
How do you know that giving it away will be better? I think it better to lease or franchize the rights to many companies in an organized manner that promotes very rapid developement. The parent organization uses the royalties for further R & D that then benifits all. Compare this with many companies each trying to do there own engineering thus requiring them to sell at a much higher price.

Re: re: Just give it away?
Gravity can be somewhat imitated with a spring. Maybe you can explain the mechanism by which gravity stores energy and then releases it again. Not quite the same thing.jtolan wrote:
