Thanks for leading us to this fantastic idea! For those who have not checked out the link, the inventor of the "avalanchedrive", Murilo Luciano Filho of Sao Paulo, Brazil, has devised an elegant implementation of a WORKING gravity-powered device!

From all appearances, no big wheel is needed, power output could be considerable- even dangerous, it can be made from common materials with common tools, it could be easily mass-produced, and the general concept could be adapted in many ways.
From the description, the biggest problem is keeping the speed down- some problem... Mr. Filho is not even asking for royalties, only due credit, and the pictures provided are enough to gain a full understanding of how the Fractioning and Repositioning of a Constant Mass (FRCM) device works.

The device is basically a special chain that is always heavier on one side than on the other. Check it out, it will be worth it.
As for me, I'm headed for the workshop.......
