I don't know David. I've puzzled over the fact that he disguised the weights in a handkerchief. The "cylindrical" description is open to re-interpretation. It could mean "round" or "disc-like" or "tube-like". We can say that it does NOT mean "square" or "ball-like". Possibly the weigts were hollow - that could be implied by the term cylindrical.

What possible reasons for hiding them? Besides the shape, which might show how they were attached, wear-spots or areas might have given some clue as to their action. Personally I think that JB disguised them partly so as reduce the number of clues available and partly to add mystery, because that was his nature. Finally perhaps they were just very greasy and he was protecting the hands of the witnesses but allowed the assumption that here was a mystery worth hiding.

I don't think they were rolled, not even partially, either before or after they were dropped. No sound-descriptions mention rolling sounds, just banging, thumping and scratching. But that is just my opinion and I may be wrong.

Again I think the purpose of using a wheel was to provide the basis for attachment of the mechanisms but whether it needed to be a wheel of just some crossbeams lashed together I cannot say - yet.

The wheel described as a peacock is also bewildering but perhaps that was just JB waxing lyrical.

: Hi John. Do you think there is any signifigance to the "weights" being cylindrical? Do you think that they rolled, or partially rolled, before or after they were dropped? Something there...right? Otherwise why would he hide them? Do you think maybe the device has nothing itself to do with a wheel, that that was just for outwards appearences, as per his quotes, a wheel appears, but is it? Proud as a peacock ( males have full feathers to show off to attract) Rotates whether laden of full, without weights, springs, or wind.

: Regards,

: David
