: Regardless of what the rest of you true believers say you're still missing the obvious point mentioned by Bessler himself. First off many perpetual motion machines have been faked using a flywheel. Not only does Bessler state his uses a flywheel, he also says it it the principle piece of his machine.

: DUH!!!

David,

I think the aim of Bessler's statement: "Around the firmly placed horizontal axis is a rotating disc (or lower cylinder) which resembles a grindstone. This disc can be called the principle piece of my machine"... was to give the reader of the statement an idea of what the machine looked like. The written statements probably did not all have a drawing attached. I don't think he was giving clues to the working components of the machine but was making a reference to an object, a grindstone, that most people could picture in their minds; a type of visual reference to a familiar object, an object standing upright, an object with an axle, an object fixed in place, an object that spins. I think the most interesting thing in the statement is the wording "lower cylinder". If this is a true translation of what was written, why would he make reference to a LOWER cylinder? If the main wheel structure was the 'lower' cylinder, what and where was the upper cylinder? However, as in the case of the translation dealing with the clue: "Weights gained force from their own swinging" the most recent translation (posted by John Collins 01:07:47 10/27/02) does not contain the word "swinging" at all. Could this be the case with the words "lower cylinder"? Would a new translation omit those words? In any event, even if Bessler's machine was a "fake", even if it was not perpetual motion, it was a remarkable accomplishment and worthy of study. I'll gladly spend an hour winding up a machine that could produce that much power and run continuously for 54 days.

Jeff
