Thank you for that Johannes, although I have a copy of that signature, I’ve never seen it in colour and it looks like a photograph rather than a scan. Very interesting. It might be worth getting more detail from the seal if anyone has photo manipulating software?

Hi had a quick look using GIMP.
The images in the post above are low resolution and shinny.
This makes using filters to bring out the embossment not practical.

Great job johannesbender. I would have thought the first letter would be a J in the 4 leaf clover.

i thought the same Daxwc , it might be one or the other J/I , i am also not so sure about that eye on top , it might be a crown or an old helmet type of thing , but it just seems like an eye form to me at this time.Great job johannesbender. I would have thought the first letter would be a J in the 4 leaf clover.
my thinking is to search for a coat of arms or such looking like that.
Its all relative.

You are right about the JB. I wonder what dictates it which way you spell it?

giving a quick oppinion about it ,it is completely possible that it may just be latinized , the old latin alphabet having i/j interchangeable .
and also we need to remember the name itself has history dating back to the latin alphabet too.

would you agree that may be mercury in the center ?
then there is what appears to be libra , if its libra it is associated with venus.

Doesn't the JEEO conform to what Oystein has said ?
i.e. JEEB where the B and O are transposed using the cipher ?

Maybe; myself I thought it was Tarus with something under it. We really need to find an old German Astrology book he might have been using.would you agree that may be mercury in the center ?

exactly , like JC determined bessler was transposed to orffyre , thats a fact we can agree on for sure.Fletcher wrote:Doesn't the JEEO conform to what Oystein has said ?

i researched via wikipidea and it seems 17 century falls under the modern symbols , but i have not dug deep enough to be sure because some signs dont look the same.Maybe; myself I thought it was Tarus with something under it. We really need to find an old German Astrology book he might have been using.
and it is possible that it may be taurus as you said , its a bit hard to tell.
i used an orrery to go back to 1712 and look at the 3 planets for a while.
i am not so sure the circle i drew to the left is the same as the right one too , the right side i feel positive about , so that may be the sun.
Its all relative.

I have seen the bottom anchor and lines before on the seal, just can't remember where.
