It is difficult to present a concept in 2D where three dimensions are required.

I had a two hinged doors [soloon doors] and have several drop doors.

Drop door are like the one you show but have normal door angle of opening.

These hinges increase in length while they operate.

So are you using the middle mass to open the hinge thus increasing the length to cause overbalance.

I downloaded your image and enlarged to see your 2008 concept.

So the implementation is by moving the main beam of centre to the right by gravity moving the central mass.

Great idea!

Still a good idea. There is that tricky transition issue of the arm being out and needing to be pulled back in.
Also the middle mass dropping and needing to be lifted.

A pain to all that explore 'The Quest'.
