Two weights swinging

Post by gapite »

OK, it is mentioned often that there were two weights working together.
Here is what I have been working on lately.

Two weights pivoting at the ends and free to swing together.
The middle length is rigid, with one or both of the end ones being rigid or flexible leaf-springs.

The idea would be that there are 8 of these, equispaced around the wheel, with one end on the axle and the other on the rim (or connected to the outside of the wheel by some means)

The motion generated is interesting, as if it is allowed to complete a full cycle, both weights are forced upwards by the swinging of the other.

The ideal would be that the weights would complete a cycle for each revolution of the wheel, and that it should self regulate its speed due to the motion of the cycle.

I have only been able to model one of them in WM but would be interested to see what happens if 8 were put around a wheel and it was set into motion.
Anyone want to try it out?

Would be interested to hear what you think.

Tim.

Gapite.....

Thats EXACTLY what I have been working since joining this forum a few days ago! Some of Bessler's clues made me think of this also.

There is a nother "twist" you may not have considered. I will put together a drawing and get it to you to show what I have in mind.

You would have to build it to trust the results. wm2d gets really spastic when you work with spheres attached to ropes or rods. It is even worse if you attach the sphere to a material i.e. wood or metal. it will always show perpetual motion. you can not get real results if you attach a sphere to a shape with wm2d. I talked to the programmer for wm2d and he said they were working on it but that has been over a year ago.

I tried this about a year ago.
