Hi Fletcher,
Thanks a lot for your post. I greatly appreciate your remarks and kind words about my website.

Your idea to display posters' IP addresses on the main index page is a good one. I agree that since the IPs are available on the message pages anyway, no one should mind if they are also visible on the index page.

There are two issues involved here. The first is primarily a technical one. In order to implement your idea, I would need to go in and tweak the perl script which I did not write to begin with. This inherently involves some risk that I might break something, which makes me a little reluctant to mess with it.

Also, I have long contemplated the idea of moving to an entirely new and improved discussion board, possibly even a high-end commercial product. Naturally, the obstacles here are the time and money I would have to sink into the project. But I think it needs to be done. This little freeware discussion board has done a great job, but the Bessler community deserves better!

That said, I will probably not invest any time or energy changing the way this board works, but instead keep moving towards the goal of a complete discussion board upgrade.

If anyone out there has any ideas or suggestions for commercial discussion board products, please let me know...

Thanks,
Scott

: Scott, In a way I am probably representive of hundreds if not thousands of people who regularly check your discussion board, but thru choice remain silent, unless I should have something constructive to add. In the main I enjoy the posts and find them thought provoking, generally uplifting and energising. I have been building prototypes for 5 yrs (3rd & hopefully last prototype under construction now) but I don't like to get unwillingly sidetracked by irrelevant issues and people. I, probably like the vast majority of your readership, have difficulty at times telling opinion, spin & hearsay from 'fact' & patiently await JC's second book as I think his research, logic & credibility is proven & sound. "More power to your elbow John."

: * Can I suggest that the discussion board index header also include the senders IP address b4 the date & time - for two reasons.

: 1). I can then tell at a glance if the same person is posting under different names by scanning down the index page.

: 2). I can then attach a certain level of confidence to what that person has to say with regards to 'fact v's fiction'& how helpful it may or may not be. It becomes a matter of my choice.

: An excellent site & discussion board Scott & I appreciate the enourmous amount of work you undoubtably put in to it for the benefit of others like me & your regular contributors. - I look forward to it each day down under here in New Zealand.

: P.S. I don't believe any serious contributor would object to their IP address being flagged on the index header but others may disagree :-)
